About the Role
We are looking for a seasoned, hands-on Broadcast Engineer to join our SNY Engineering and Operations team. This position is responsible for maintaining equipment & technical standards at a production and newsroom facility. This is a fast-paced, collaborative role for someone who thrives under pressure, takes ownership, and is passionate about technology in a broadcast and control room environment.
NY sports fans are welcome but not required! This role reports to our Sr. Manager, Engineer. This is an in-office role 5 days per week out of our offices at WTC. It may also include travel to Citi field, MetLife or a remote venue
What You’ll Do
- Support multiple daily live in studio productions, including editing workstations, production Control rooms, camera control, audio and Studio equipment and systems. Act as quality control for incoming/outgoing video feeds.
- Perform preventative maintenance on studio, ENG & newsroom equipment.
- Assist as a backup for studio technical managers and oversee live productions, crews, and scheduled shows
- Perform daily preventive maintenance and troubleshoot issues in audio, video, intercom, and related broadcast systems.
- Maintain quality control for all incoming feeds including Zoom calls, LiveU and truck game feeds, routing, IFB & PL communication.
- Working with external technical vendor support to ensure timely resolution of internal requests and resolution of problem.
- Implement studio and remote related maintenance duties as required and assigned.
- Experience in supporting studio technology and applications used in the broadcast industry.
- Assist to Evaluate, test, and install upgrades to existing broadcast and networking system and / or new hardware - technology implementation.
What You'll Bring
- Must have a minimum of seven years of experience is a professional broadcast engineering role at a studio environment – live broadcast production facility.
- Experience with a non‐linear edit system such as Avid & the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite desired.
- Experience with SSL audio, Grass Valley / Ross switchers, Ross Cambot robotics, Overdrive automation, Xpression, Evertz router (monitoring and control), Sony Wireless RF and RTS Telex intercoms required.
- Knowledge of traditional IP/LAN infrastructures and Storage technology.
- Position requires non-traditional working day and hours
- Occasional travel is anticipated for remote productions and maintenance
- Positive work ethic, ability to work well in groups to execute projects on time while maintaining the manager's expectations.
- LED wall experience (Utilizing NovaStar tech and 4K knowledge a Plus)
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively with diverse audiences across different departments, ranging from non‐ technical clients to technical professionals and operations staff.
- Knowledge of Video over IP protocol (RTP / SRT) as we utilize Haivision, LiveU, Evertz and Nevion distribution systems.
Eligibility Requirements:
- BS in Engineering / Computer Science or have a minimum of 7 years professional Broadcast Staff Engineer experience in a live studio production facility.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and solve complex technical issues in real-time.
- Experience in a similar role with a media company, systems integrator, or other relevant industry.
- Must be able to work flexible hours including weekdays, weekends, holidays, and overnights.
- Ability to lift and carry 30+ pounds of gear.
