Job Description

A Forensic Auto Mechanic is responsible for investigating, analyzing, traffic control systems and reconstructing vehicular collisions. Duties include analyzing work zone traffic control plans, traffic signal timing plans, and traffic control devices, as they relate to single and multiple vehicle collisions. Prepare and present demonstrative diagrams, charts, and analyses of the relation of the transportation system to the collision. May also inspect and analyze automotive or mechanical parts for the origin and cause of failure. Document and preserve evidence obtained and prepare written reports of findings.

Immediate Opening: Accident Reconstructionist / Collision Investigator

Advantage Investigations is actively seeking an experienced Accident Reconstructionist / Collision Investigator for immediate hire. We are looking for a highly skilled professional with extensive experience in vehicle crash investigation, collision reconstruction, Event Data Recorder (EDR) analysis, forensic vehicle inspections, and expert reporting.

This role is ideal for a certified or experienced reconstruction expert who can independently manage crash investigations, perform technical analysis, prepare expert reports, and provide litigation support for insurance defense cases.

Candidates with ACTAR certification, courtroom testimony experience, and advanced reconstruction technology expertise are strongly encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

· Conduct motor vehicle accident investigations and collision scene inspections

· Perform accident reconstruction analysis using physics, engineering principles, and mathematical calculations

· Analyze:

o Vehicle damage

o Roadway evidence

o Impact dynamics

o Crush profiles

o Speed calculations

o Delta-V and momentum analysis

o Time-distance analysis

o Vehicle movement and trajectory

· Download and interpret Event Data Recorder (EDR) / black box data

· Conduct forensic vehicle inspections

· Utilize crash reconstruction software and mapping technology

· Prepare detailed written expert reports and investigative findings

· Communicate with:

o Attorneys

o Insurance carriers

o SIU personnel

o Claims professionals

o Law enforcement agencies

· Provide deposition and courtroom testimony as an expert witness when necessary

· Operate specialized reconstruction equipment including:

o FARO/LIDAR scanners

o Total stations

o Drones/UAS

o Photogrammetry systems

· Work independently while managing multiple investigations and deadlines

Required Qualifications

· Minimum experience in accident investigation and traffic collision reconstruction

· Formal accident reconstruction training from a recognized institution, including:

o Northwestern University Center for Public Safety

o IPTM (Institute of Police Technology and Management)

o Equivalent advanced reconstruction training

· Experience with Event Data Recorder (EDR) downloads and interpretation

· Experience using crash reconstruction software programs such as:

o PC-Crash

o HVE

o Virtual CRASH

o FARO Zone

o Bosch CDR tools

· Knowledge of vehicle dynamics and forensic crash analysis

· Strong report writing and verbal communication skills

· Ability to independently complete assignments from scene investigation through final reporting

· Valid driver’s license and ability to travel

Preferred Qualifications

· ACTAR Certification strongly preferred

· Prior law enforcement traffic homicide or crash investigation experience

· Courtroom testimony and expert witness experience

· Automotive repair or ASE-certified technician experience

· Drone pilot certification (FAA Part 107 preferred)

· SIU or insurance defense investigation experience
