Sitter/Companion Levindale LTC at LifeBridge Health – Baltimore, Maryland

Location: Levindale Hospital, Baltimore, MD

The Sitter works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN) to provide continuous observation and support to assigned patients.

This role focuses on maintaining patient safety by monitoring behavior, recognizing potential hazards, and redirecting patients as needed.

The Sitter does not perform activities of daily living (ADLs), clinical care, documentation, or caregiver functions.

• Maintain constant observation of assigned patient(s)

• Immediately alert nursing staff to any behavior that may indicate a safety concern

• Recognize and respond to hazards that may impact patient safety

• Redirect patient behavior appropriately and calmly

• Engage patients in appropriate activities such as:

  • Conversation

  • Reading

  • Playing cards or games

  • Watching assigned GWN videos

  • Other approved diversional activities

• Reinforce patient instructions as directed by nursing staff

• Safely assist with patient transport when appropriate

• Communicate promptly and courteously with patients, families, visitors, and staff

• Promote a safe and supportive environment

• Carry and effectively use assigned communication device (e.g., Vocera)

• Required: High School Diploma or GED

• Preferred: Additional healthcare-related training

• Required: Less than one year of experience

• Healthcare or patient-facing experience preferred but not required

• Strong observation skills

• Ability to remain alert and attentive for extended periods

• Calm, patient, and professional demeanor

• Effective verbal communication

• Ability to follow directions and respond quickly to safety concerns

• Strong customer service skills
