Job Description

The Debt Defense Consultation Associate Attorney is responsible for conducting initial case evaluations for individuals facing consumer debt issues. This role involves reviewing and analyzing client financial and legal information to determine viable legal strategies, potential resolutions, and appropriate services the firm can offer. The attorney will assess case merits, identify risks and expected outcomes, and clearly communicate options to potential clients.
Essential Functions – Debt Defense Consultation Associate Attorney

• Review and analyze consumer debt cases, including credit card, loan, and collection account matters.
• Evaluate legal defenses, risks, and potential outcomes based on applicable state and federal consumer protection laws.
• Advise clients on available legal options, including debt defense, settlement, negotiation, litigation strategies, and alternative resolutions.
• Conduct a high volume of client consultations via phone and/or video, explaining complex legal concepts in a clear and compassionate manner.
• Maintain accurate, detailed, and clear consultation notations in file management system.
• Ensure compliance with firm policies, ethical obligations, and applicable state and federal regulations.
• Analyze case deadlines and procedural requirements to ensure timely and effective representation.
• Identify cases appropriate for escalation, litigation, settlement, or alternative legal services.
• Stay current on changes in consumer debt law, court rules, and best practices.
• If requested, draft, review, and file legal pleadings, motions, discovery responses, and correspondence related to debt defense matters.
• If requested, communicate with opposing counsel, creditors, and collection agencies to negotiate resolutions and settlements.
• If requested, represent clients in court proceedings, hearings, mediations, and conferences as required.

Required Skills/Abilities:
• Knowledge of Florida Civil Rules and Procedure.
• Clio experience preferred, but not required.
• Following up with Clients, Opposing Council, and Courts.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
• Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
• Extensive knowledge of office administration, clerical procedures, and recordkeeping systems.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Extremely proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software with the ability to learn new or updated software.
Education and Experience:
• Juris Doctorate as well as a license to practice law in the state of Florida.
• 3 years minimum experience practicing law.
Physical Requirements:
• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
