Daycare Commissary Kitchen Assistant! in Mississauga, Ontario at Kids & Company Ltd

Reporting to the Head Chef, the On-Call Kitchen Assistant plays an important role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the kitchen. This position assists with food preparation, cleanliness, and maintaining Kids & Company standards to help deliver high-quality childcare services.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with cutting fruits/Vegetables and helping in the preparation of Hot lunches and daily food productionReceiving and storage of deliveries as related to the commissary kitchenEffective storage, management, and safe rotation (FIFO) of all productsEnsure safe food storage and disposal, including taking daily logs of food temperature, sanitizer temperature, and refrigerator/freezer temperatures. Following the FIFO (First in First Out) rule and rotating inventory as required. Complies with all health and hygiene requirements under all food safety and handling legislation. Follows proper washing and sanitizing procedures for all dishware after collection from classroomsAssists kitchen operations, including scheduled cleaning and sanitizing of appliances, counters, cupboards, and drawers. Required to prepare food for field trips, school-age programs, and community events from time to time. Ad hoc duties may be assigned. Duties and responsibilities may change from time to time depending on the needs of the commissary.

Schedule
This is an on-call position with no guaranteed hours. Shifts are scheduled based on operational needs and may vary week to week.
Start time is 4:00 am

Job Requirements

2–3 years of kitchen assistant or related experience preferredHigh school diploma or equivalent required; culinary education is an assetValid Food Handler CertificationExperience in a high-volume kitchen environment preferredExperience in a daycare or long-term care setting is an assetStrong communication skills and ability to work as part of a teamHighly organized and detail-orientedAbility to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks (standing, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling)Must be able to provide two pieces of valid government ID and pass a criminal background check
