SUMMARY:
The Lead Medical Assistant performs administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of a physician. Duties include, but are not limited to; scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, performing insurance pre-authorizations, handling electronic patient communication and prescription refills as directed by the provider, and providing direction and oversight to other medical assistants to ensure patients’ needs are met.JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience: Minimum 2 years’ experience in direct patient care in clinic/medical office setting required. Previous supervisory experience preferred.
Certifications: BLS certification within the first six months of employment.
Other: Ability to read, write and comprehend medical information. Ability to effectively present information, both verbal and written. Proficient computer skills required. Excellent telephone etiquette required.
Preferred Education: Associates Degree

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to perform the following: Must have the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, to solve problems and make decisions. Ability to stand and walk, bend, stoop and twist up to or exceeding 8 to10 hours during shift(s). Occasionally requires lifting of 50 pounds or more of equipment. Able to push in excess of 150 pound wheelchair with patient and equipment. Occasionally lifts patients with assist 125 pounds or more. Spends eight hours or more in front of computer, monitor or similar screen utilizing keyboard and/or mouse, daily. Must be able to respond quickly in emergency situations of CPR and obtaining equipment. Must be able to handle critical and highly stressful situations with efficiency and composure. Acuity to the five senses required to respond to critical changing patient situations from actual observations and/or equipment alarms. May be subject to inside environmental conditions, hazards (including electrical currents and exposure to high heat and chemicals) and infectious diseases.
