Job Description
The purpose of this job description is to communicate the responsibilities and duties associated with the position of Full-time WIC Registered Dietitian. The position of Full-time WIC Registered Dietitian is responsible for conducting individual nutrition counseling to high-risk participants, approving issuance of special formulas, and assisting with the WIC Certification Specialist Program. The Dietitian will assist the WIC Director, Clinical Supervisor, Outreach/NE Coordinator, QA Coordinator and admin staff when needed.

Supervision Received:
The WIC Dietitian will receive direct supervision by the WIC Clinic Supervisor. All paperwork will be turned into appropriate point of contact. Performance reviews will be made by the WIC Clinic Supervisor.
Immunizations recommended in accordance with CDC guidelines:
1. MMR (2 doses or evidence of immunity to measles, mumps, and rubella);
2.Varicella (2 doses, reliable history/medical documentation of disease, or evidence of immunity to chickenpox);
3. Influenza (1 dose annually);
4.Td (complete series with one booster dose every 10 yrs);
5.Hepatitis B (Documentation of 3 doses. Un-immunized new employees shall complete a 3-dose series and post-vaccination blood test showing immunity. If test result is negative, up to 3 additional doses of vaccine may be required.)
The following tests are recommended:
- Mantoux Tuberculin Skin Test- Purified Protein Derivative (PPD). Annual testing recommended.
- Any blood titer necessary to establish immunity to measles, mumps, rubella, varicella or hepatitis B.
Aptitudes Required:
Reasoning Development – must be able to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form, and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Language Development –must be at a level that would apply to a person capable of interpreting and understanding medical and technological journals. The WIC Dietitian must be able to prepare business letters, expositions, summaries and reports with proper format.
Math Development – must be able to solve mathematical problems using techniques such as algebra, calculus and statistics.
Physical Requirements:
- Have frequent need (33% - 66% of time) for sitting.
- Have frequent need for typing or writing.
- Have frequent need for walking.
- Have frequent need for standing.
- Have occasional need (1 – 33% of time) for driving or operating equipment.
- Have occasional need for pushing or pulling.
- Have occasional need for bending, stooping, or squatting.
- Have rare need (less than 1% of time) for reaching above shoulders.
- Have rare need for climbing stairs.
- Have rare need for climbing ladders.
- Have rare need for grasping or gripping.
- Have rare need for finger dexterity.
- Have rare need for eye/hand/foot coordination.
- Have rare need for lying down.
Lifting/Carrying:
- Have occasional need (1% - 33% of time) to lift/carry 26 – 50 pounds.
- Have occasional need to lift/carry 10 – 25 pounds.
- Have occasional need to lift/carry under 10 pounds.
- Have rare need (less than 1% of time) to lift/carry 51 or more pounds.
Vision Requirements:
- Have constant need (66% - 100% of time) to be able to see detail.
- Have constant need to be able to see beyond arm’s length.
Hearing Requirements:
Have constant need (66% - 100% of time) to be able to hear other personnel in order to communicate effectively.
Speaking Requirements:
Have constant need (66% - 100% of time) to be able to communicate to other personnel effectively.
Environment – Working Conditions:
Have constant need (66% - 100% of time) to work indoors.
- Have rare need (less than 1% of time) to work outdoors.
- Have rare need to work in confined space.
- Have rare need for exposure to fumes, chemicals, solvents, etc.
- Have rare need for exposure to extreme temperatures.
Optimum Qualifications:
The successful candidate should speak and read English well and must also meet the aptitude requirements listed in this description. Exceptional organizational skills are needed. RD Certification.
Work Schedule:
Work Days: Monday through Friday, some Saturdays
Work Hours: 40 hour work week using a flexible schedule requiring some late nights and Saturdays.
