Job Description
SAFE seeks a Staff Assistant to support its Public Affairs and Communications team. This is an excellent opportunity with significant growth potential for an early-career professional interested in policy communications, public affairs, and the intersection of energy security, advanced manufacturing, transportation, supply chains, and national security.The Staff Assistant will support day-to-day communications operations, help maintain key administrative systems, contribute to digital and written content, and assist with the production of materials that advance SAFE’s mission. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, intellectually curious, digitally savvy, and eager to learn in a fast-paced policy environment.This position reports to SAFE’s Senior Vice President of Public Affairs.

ResponsibilitiesThe Staff Assistant will:Support core administrative functions for the Public Affairs and Communications team, includingmaintainingpress lists, tracking media mentions, scheduling meetings, and organizing team materials. Help manage and improve the team’s digital infrastructure, including contact databases, media monitoring systems, content calendars, and analytics tools. Assistwith drafting, editing, and distributing communications materials, including social media content, newsletters, press materials, website updates, and other public-facing content. Contribute to the design, formatting, and production of reports, one-pagers, presentations, and other policy and communications materials. Track digital engagement and media performance, helping the team understand its reach andidentifyopportunities to grow SAFE’s audience. Support the use of AI and other emerging tools to improve team workflows, message deployment, audience engagement, and content production. Help ensure SAFE’s public-facing materials areaccurate, consistent,timely, and aligned with the organization’s voice and mission. Provide flexible support across the team as priorities evolve.

QualificationsStrong candidates will bring:
A bachelor’s degree in public policy, journalism, communications, international relations, economics, political science, ora relatedfield. Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and organizational skills. Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. Interest in energy, transportation, supply chain, manufacturing, mineral security, national security, or related policy issues. Familiarity with or interest in social media platforms, digital communications tools, content management systems, media databases, analytics platforms, and/or AI-enabled tools. Sound judgment, professionalism, and discretion. A collaborative mindset and willingness to pitch in on both administrative and substantive projects. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. Experience0–3 years of relevant experience in communications, public affairs, journalism, digital strategy, social media, policy, research, or administrative support. Experience in a policy, nonprofit, government, advocacy, media, or mission-driven organization is helpful but notrequired. Salary and BenefitsThe salary range for this position is $55,000–$65,000 per year, commensurate with experience.SAFE offers a competitive benefits package, including health insurance, a 401(k) with employer contribution, life insurance, and a robust paid vacation policy. SAFE provides a generous health benefits package covering up to 100% of premiums for employees and their families, along with additional benefits to be detailed in the offer.LocationThis position is based in Washington, D.C. The Staff Assistant will work from SAFE’s centrally located office.
