SUMMER, Camp Counselor, Springfield YMCA at Sabold Elementary at Community YMCA – Springfield, Pennsylvania

Provides direct supervision of a group of children in a seasonal day camp. Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

RESPONSIBILITES INLUDE:

Planning, organizing, and leading age-appropriate games, activities, and group eventsActively supervising campers to ensure their safety and well-being at all timesAssisting and implementing daily in-house themed activities, assisting with field trips, and supporting swimming daysEncouraging teamwork, positive behavior, and inclusion among campersCommunicating effectively with fellow staffServing as a positive role model by demonstrating enthusiasm, patience, and professionalism

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Supervises a group of children and possess ever present knowledge of whereabouts and safety of each child in assigned group.
2. Implements and follows program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with YMCA values.
3. Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
4. Attends staff meetings and trainings.
5. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
6. Completes accident/incident reports as necessary.
7. Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
8. Reinforce children’s actions in a positive manner to promote safety and health self-images.
9. Builds effective, authentic relationships with campers and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA.
10. Works in cooperation with other staff as a member of the YMCA team.
11. Maintains a professional attitude and appearance at all times.
12. Any other duties deemed necessary to ensure the success of the Community YMCA of Eastern Delaware County.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Minimum 18 years of age.
2. Experience working with children ages 6-12 preferred.
Strong organizational and leadership skills
3. Ability to engage groups of children in active play and structured activities
4. Energetic, dependable, and flexible in a fast-paced environment
5. Certifications: Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR/AED, and First Aid.
6. Completion of required trainings.
7. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

1. Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.
2. Able to lift and carry 15-50 lbs.
3. Must be able to see, hear, direct, and assist members, guests, and staff to ensure safety.
