Summary:
The Infection Control Preventionist is responsible for overseeing the hospital-wide Infection Prevention and Control program of Magnolia Regional Health Center to include all outpatient medical clinics and Magnolia Home Health and Hospice.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's of Science in nursing required. Attends face-to-face or completing online educational offerings sponsored by APIC, SHEA, or State Departments of Health
Certification/Licensure Requirements:
- Registered Nurse, required to be licensed with the MS State Board of Nursing or hold a multi-state licensure within the primary state of residency.
- Certification in Infection Control (CIC) is required within three years of accepting the position.
- Membership in either APIC (Association of Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology) or SHEA (Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America).
Experience:
- Minimum of three years' clinical experience required.
- Basic knowledge of the principles of epidemiology and infectious diseases.
- Knowledge of healthcare documentation systems.
- Strong computer skills to include Microsoft Office applications, medical record review and/or abstraction.
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to a prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or board of directors.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Also, have the ability for deductive and analytical reasoning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for detecting and recording health care associated infections on a systematic and current basis.
- Responsible for analyzing health care associated infections with the help of the Director of Performance Improvement and preparing a monthly report for the Environmental Control Committee.
- Responsible for advising others about the hospital's isolation policy and disposition of patients admitted with infections.
- Responsible for epidemiological investigation of all significant clusters of infections above the expected level.
- Responsible for assisting with in-service training and orientation programs related to infection prevention and control.
- Responsible for assisting in the development and/or implementation of improved infection control measures.
- Participates in patient education programs as it relates to infection prevention and control.
- Responsible for updating knowledge and practices as it relates to infection control.
- Responsible for liaison with the local health department in reporting reportable diseases as outlined by MS State Department of Health.
- Review and updates the infection control policies and procedures.
