About This Position

POSITION SUMMARY: The Facilities Engineer III contributes to the operational reliability of utility systems, life safety systems, non medical equipment, and other operational components of the facilities. The position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of a wide variety of equipment and building features, ensuring necessary documentation is completed.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma/General Education Degree(GED).
  • 5 years of maintenance - building maintenance experience.
  • State of Alaska Boiler Operator Class 4, 3, 2, or 1 Certificate of Fitness. OR
  • State of Alaska Refrigeration Certification with Federal EPA Refrigerant License. OR
  • Siemens Advanced Operator Certification from an approved certifying agency.
  • Ability to read, write and speak the English language. Ability to analyze, interpret, write, and verbalize professional information and technical procedures.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Moderate computer software skills – Microsoft Office, email and electronic calendar (Outlook).
  • Knowledge in the use of basic hand and power tools such as grinders, drills, saws, screw drivers and wrenches. Basic knowledge necessary to perform minor maintenance tasks such as installing wall fixtures, pictures, TV’s, lights and replacing light bulb. The ability to replace plumbing fixtures and components such as water faucets, toilet components, Sloan fittings, and non- soldered drain lines. Have the ability to assess basic operation of physical plant equipment such as air handling units, boilers, chillers, pumps and fans. Have the ability to apply paints, primers, and sealers and patch holes in drywall. Have the ability to change locksets, door hinges and do basic troubleshooting on automatic doors. Must have basic computer skills and be familiar with Microsoft Word, Outlook and internet Explorer. Demonstrate competence with equipment management systems within the probationary period.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of more advances hand and power tools such as calibrating tools, equipment cleaning tools, and various testing equipment. Possesses basic knowledge necessary to perform minor maintenance tasks such as calibrating air flow, testing mechanical equipment and maintaining mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, pumps and various plant equipment. Have the ability to replace single and three phase motors in a variety of systems. Have the ability to do intermediate level troubleshooting and repair of domestic water supply, sewer drain systems, steam supply, and medical gas systems. Have the ability to use power tools associated with all areas of plumbing repair. Be able to operate boilers, chillers and various central plant equipment. Have the ability to match different paint colors, apply different types of paint I.E latex, flat or epoxies with different methods. Have the ability to drywall, mud, tape, and texture walls. Must be familiar with building automated control programs, computer maintenance management programs and how to operate them, be familiar with Microsoft Excel and know how to access network drives and programs. Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Have advanced knowledge to maintain and repair basic fire systems issues such as faulty smoke detectors and pull stations, overhead paging systems, low voltage build controls systems, motor control centers, circuit controls and high voltage distribution equipment, domestic water systems, steam system, and waste water systems, major building system components such as boilers, pumps, fans, and chillers.

PREFERRED:

  • 5 years of maintenance - hospital/LTC building maintenance.
  • Boiler Operator Class 1 or 2; or other Advanced Trades Certification from an approved certifying agency.
  • Computer Skills: Advanced user skills necessary to quickly gain confidence with a variety of specialized software applications.
