Overview

The Fitchburg Police Department is accepting resumes for full-time Police Officer positions through the Hybrid Massachusetts Civil Service Local Register. No civil service exam is required.

Candidates eligible for appointment under the Massachusetts Civil Service (MGL Ch. 31 Sec. 58, Age, Education)

Applicants with an associate degree or higher in criminal justice or a related field are preferred

Certified police officers

Academy-trained candidates

Key Responsibilities:

Enforce state, and local laws and ordinances

Patrol assigned areas by vehicle, motorcycle, foot, or bicycle

Respond to calls for service and emergency situations

Conduct investigations and interviews and prepare detailed reports

Make arrests and testify in court when required

Work collaboratively with fellow officers and community partners

Build positive relationships with community through proactive engagement

Participate in ongoing training and professional development

Perform related duties as assigned

Full-time

This position operates on a 4/2 rotating schedule, with four consecutive workdays followed by two days off; shifts may include evenings, weekends, and holidays

Minimum Qualifications

Eligible for appointment under the Massachusetts Civil Service Local Register (MGL Ch. 31 Sec. 58, Age, Education, etc.)

Able to meet Massachusetts POST Commission certification requirements

Valid Massachusetts driver’s license

Must be able to obtain Massachusetts License to Carry

Successful completion of background investigation, medical exam, psychological exam, and drug screening

Ability to meet minimum physical and mental fitness requirements
