About This Position

A Camp Healthcare Manager is responsible for the general health and safety of campers and staff, maintaining camp infirmary, administering medications and first aid care, reviewing health histories, health screening checks, and keeping accurate and detailed records.

As a Healthcare Manager you will:

• Establish and maintain regular infirmary hours. Conduct daily check of infirmary and equipment for safety, cleanliness and good repair.

• Establish and follow appropriate medical routines including record-keeping in the daily medical log, proper disposal of medical waste, managing and safeguarding medications and utilizing approved standing orders.

• Establish and maintain contact with physician and with local hospital facilities: give first aid: provide care in case of illness and accident as directed by physician: take responsibility for calling the physician and when advisable accompany campers and staff on trips to physician’s office and/or hospital.

• Requisition necessary equipment and supplies throughout camp.

• During staff and camper check-in, collect all medications, store in a locked cabinet and dispense as indicated by prescribing physician.

• Notify Camp Director when parents/guardians should be advised of illness or accident. Contact parents/guardians after consulting the Camp Director in the event of an accident, illness, or injury. Maintain phone log of all contacts.

• Maintain infirmary security as designated by Camp Director.

• Complete and maintain necessary reports; such as daily treatment log, health department accident/illness reports, and insurance claim forms.

• Monitor health of all campers and staff.

• Ensure Camp Director receives accident reports, health log, camper and staff health cards at the end of the camp season.

• Meet with Camp Director and/or administrative staff as necessary.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Believe in the mission of Girl Scouting.

• Good character, integrity, adaptability, patience, sense of humor, and enthusiasm.

• Good time management, organization and communication skills.

• Ability to keep accurate and detailed records.

• Be able to make decisions and act wisely in emergency situations.

• Physical signed by medical professional within past 24 months.

• Be at least 21 years of age.

• Present a genuine interest in campers to effectively treat homesickness and fears.

• Ability to work with campers and staff members of diverse backgrounds.

• The entire position description will be carried out under the standard of conduct as outlined in the Personnel Policy Manual for Seasonal & Short-Term Program Staff.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching and lifting 20 - 50 pounds.

• Daily exposure to seasonal weather conditions.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

All staff must be familiar with the safety rules and regulations. They must take reasonable steps to ensure their own health and safety, and that of anyone else who may be affected by their actions. They should inform their supervisor of any hazard with which they are not trained.
