About the Beacon ProgramBeacon programs are school-based community centers serving children ages 6+, as well as adults of all ages. Programs operate:
- Monday–Friday: 1:15 PM – 9:15 PM
- Saturdays: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
- School holidays/recesses and summer: 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM
The Program Coordinator plays a vital role in overseeing the evening and Saturday operations of the Beacon Program. This includes supervising and developing staff, coordinating programming, ensuring compliance with licensing and funding requirements, and fostering strong relationships with schools, families, and community partners.
This is a dynamic leadership position requiring organization, creativity, and a youth development mindset.
Key Responsibilities- Support the Beacon Director and Assistant Director in managing all program operations.
- Build and maintain relationships with the host school, school leadership, funders, participants, parents, and community stakeholders.
- Lead outreach, recruitment, enrollment, and retention efforts for evening and Saturday programming.
- Design and implement engaging learning, recreation, arts, and development activities (STEM, literacy, sports, arts and crafts, etc.).
- Plan and facilitate events, family engagement activities, and special projects.
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise, coach, and evaluate staff.
- Ensure accurate data entry, reporting, and compliance with DOH, DYCD, and other licensing requirements.
- Manage crises and conflicts with professionalism, following established protocols.
- Maintain clear, consistent communication with all stakeholders.
- Serve as acting site lead in the absence of the Beacon Director and Assistant Director.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Associate Degree required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Bilingual fluency in Spanish or other languages preferred.
- Experience in program management, youth development, and performance-based contracting.
- Familiarity with SACC licensing procedures and ability to maintain all required clearances.
- Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
- Strong leadership, communication, planning, and public speaking skills.
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Office 365, Outlook, Teams, and Zoom.
- Ability to work both in-person and remotely with appropriate technology.
- Work in a school-based setting with both indoor and outdoor activities.
- Frequent bending, kneeling, walking, and occasional lifting (up to 15 lbs).
