Job Description
The Calais School is a state-approved provider of special education for students with special needs. The school serves students in grades K through 12 Plus with multiple learning disabilities. We have an opportunity for a Math Teacher that has a TOSD or TOH and a subject certification in Math.
As a Special Education teacher, you will be responsible to teach students who have a wide range of learning, mental, emotional, and physical disabilities. You will adapt general education lessons in elementary and middle school grade level Math to students with mild and moderate disabilities.

As a Special Education Math Teacher, you will:
- Plan lessons in Math
- Assess students to evaluate their abilities, strengths, and weaknesses
- Teach students as an entire class or in small groups
- Grade students’ assignments to monitor progress
- Communicate with parents about students’ progress
- Work with individual students to challenge them, to improve their abilities, and to work on their weaknesses
- Prepare students for standardized tests required by the state
- Develop and enforce classroom rules
What We’re Looking For
- Valid New Jersey Teacher of the Handicapped or Teacher of Students with Disabilities certification
- NJ Teacher of Math certification
- Strong classroom management skills and a student-centered teaching philosophy
- Creativity, flexibility, and resilience in addressing diverse learning and behavioral needs
- Excellent communication skills for working with students, families, and colleagues
- Commitment to being an active, collaborative member of a professional learning community
