Patient Transporter at RWJBarnabas Health – New Brunswick, New Jersey

Job Overview

Transport patients in a safe and efficient manner throughout the hospital under the direction of supervisory personnel,

Utilizes the automated transport system to perform duties,

Performs routine cleaning of equipment used to transport patients,

Adheres to universal infection control practices,

Practices excellent customer service skills with all patients, visitors and employees,

Transports deceased to morgue,

Qualifications

Required

Satisfactory communication skills

Preferred

Prior transport experience

Scheduling Requirements

Shift 6am - 2:30pm

With every other weekend and every other holiday

Essential Functions

Transport patients in a safe and efficient manner throughout the hospital under the direction of supervisory personnel,

Utilizes the automated transport system to perform duties,

Performs routine cleaning of equipment used to transport patients,

Adders to universal infection control practices,

Practices excellent customer service skills with all patients, visitors and employees,

Transports deceased to morgue

Other Duties

Advises nurse, nurse designee or technician when arrives at floor

Introducing yourself to patients

The transporter always checks the patient's ID band for the two identifiers before transporting the patient, name and date of birth.

Assists the nurse or technician in transferring the patient from the bed to the transport equipment or vice versa,

Use caution when rounding corners,

Ensures brakes are used when transferring from a stretcher or wheelchair,

Maintains confidentiality of patient information,

Maintains the safety of patients,

Identifies appropriate situations to seek assistance from nursing staff and or security,

Recognizes and reports patient discomfort, distress or emergency situations to the nurse or technician,

Always follow infection control and handwashing precaution before, during and after a transport
