Job Summary

The key duties of this position are a vital link to an efficient and well–organized operation of the Perioperative Units: Ambulatory Pre/Post, Endoscopy, Post Anesthesia Care unit, and Surgical Suites. As a valued member of the health care team, this individual must effectively communicate with all personnel throughout the organization as well as patients and visitors. This position must be able to demonstrate flexibility by adjusting to changes in the volume of cases per day. Will perform clerical duties and assist professional nursing personnel with routine duties by maintaining department supply inventory, reordering, and organizing chart materials. Will work closely with Surgery Manager for scheduling procedures and maintaining block times for physicians. Clerical duties will include maintaining logs, entering department charges, and maintaining department blank charts and other various documentation forms. Will be responsible for flow of communication through the departments by managing phone traffic in the department. Often one of the first to speak to patients, family members, and other medical facilities, therefore must be skilled in communication and public relations. Must have knowledge of medical terminology. Will be required to often perform mentally and emotionally demanding work. Will work in an environment with potential exposure to blood borne pathogens and hazardous chemicals. Will accept and follow direction from the immediate nurse in charge.
