Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Opportunity
The UTMB Department of Radiology invites applications from fellowship-trained, board-certified or board-eligible cardiothoracic imaging radiologists to join our growing academic faculty. This is a rare opportunity to practice at a high-volume, technologically advanced academic medical center while contributing meaningfully to resident and fellow education, research, and the clinical mission of one of Texas's most distinguished institutions.

We welcome candidates at all career stages - from early-career radiologists seeking a strong academic foundation to experienced faculty ready to lead. UTMB is also able to assist foreign medical graduates in pursuing certification by the American Board of Radiology.

Why UTMB?
Founded in 1891, UTMB is one of Texas's oldest and most respected academic medical centers, with a tripartite mission of clinical excellence, education, and research. The Department of Radiology offers the intellectual energy and subspecialty depth of a major academic program, in a setting that balances meaningful academic contribution with a sustainable clinical practice - without the bureaucratic weight of the largest urban academic centers.

Where You'll Live

UTMB's campuses sit at the heart of one of Texas's most distinctive coastal regions. Galveston offers a historic island lifestyle with beautiful beaches, a thriving culinary and arts scene, and a storied architectural heritage. League City and Clear Lake - home of Johnson Space Center-NASA - offer outstanding suburban living with top-rated schools and easy access to Houston's world-class cultural and economic amenities. Whether you are drawn to island living, waterfront recreation, or the energy of a major metropolitan area, this region offers something genuinely exceptional.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The Practice
UTMB Radiology is a vibrant, collegial academic practice operating across four hospital campuses in the Houston-Galveston corridor, including our flagship John Sealy Hospital in Galveston - a Level I trauma center - and community hospitals in League City and Clear Lake. Our cardiothoracic imaging section works with state-of-the-art technology including 1.5T and 3.0T MRI, multidetector CT, and photon-counting CT.

Our department trains 8 diagnostic radiology residents per year and hosts multiple subspecialty fellowship programs, giving faculty meaningful daily opportunities for case-based teaching, mentorship, and educational engagement. Faculty benefit from close collaboration with subspecialty colleagues across a true academic medical center, with the depth of institutional infrastructure - including research support, GME infrastructure, and administrative resources - that a standalone community practice cannot offer.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • MD or DO degree
  • Board certification or eligibility by the American Board of Radiology
  • Fellowship training in cardiothoracic imaging
  • Certificate of Added Qualification in Cardiac CT
  • Valid Texas Medical License, or ability to obtain prior to start
  • Eligibility for appointment to the UTMB medical staff
  • Authorization to work in the United States

SALARY:
Commensurate with experience.

COMPENSATION & BENEFTIS:
  • Competitive salary, commensurate with qualifications and experience, benchmarked to Texas academic practices
  • Incentive program
  • Superior benefits package including health, dental, and vision coverage
  • Excellent retirement program
