SUNY Maritime College seeks to hire an Associate Director of Communications in its Communications Office. This individual will be responsible for creating print and web content in support of all campus-wide marketing campaigns, special events and sales functions. This creative work will include presentations, newsletters, promotional materials and web ads/banners. This individual should also be able to support a social media campaign by contributing both graphics and some content.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Plans, prepares, and creates the design and publication of a wide variety of complex graphic artwork, including but not limited to brochures, newsletters, displays, charts, graphs, maps, diagrams, promotional materials, and web pages
- Assist the Communication Department in establishing the initial direction and concepts for all graphic design projects
- Prepare creative designs, original graphics, and code for electronic media using a variety of design tools
- Design develop and print large-scale posters, newsletters and signage
- Maintain quality control, content consistency and updates for all print and web designs
- Design multi-media presentations for marketing venues
- Optimize images and create layouts that complement the campus website/intranet
- Maintain an understanding of current web technologies and practices, manage some editing on the website
- Consults with department staff requesting artwork, in the creation, planning and development of materials, illustrations, and publications incorporating graphic artwork
- Prepares digital files for printing web pages and web-based graphics, image collections, multimedia presentations or other electronic media
- Maintains electronic image library and graphic design, artwork, and publication archive
- Remains abreast of innovative theories, practices, and techniques related to graphic design
- Prepares detailed print specifications and costs estimates of productions; researches print costs to affirm estimates
- May review the work of staff assigned to assist with projects
- Recommends the purchase of related software and hardware
- Performs related duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in graphic design or related field
- 3-5 years' experience in graphic design, including experience planning, creating, producing/organizing print and web content
- Ability to administer our social media accounts. You will be responsible for creating original text and video content, managing posts and responding to followers
- Excellent oral and written communications skills
- Ability to translate verbal and written direction into design output
- Working knowledge of industry standard graphical design tools, such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, Flash and Dreamweaver)
- Ability to complete a practical exam, demonstrating design ability
- Working knowledge of HTML/CSS and CMS
- Must have good working knowledge of Microsoft Windows application programs
- Ability to collaborate with others and work in a fast paced, dynamic environment
- Demonstrated ability in image optimization techniques
- SAMPLES - When applying, include at least two samples of recent work designed for print and the web
Additional Information:
Classification: The Associate Director of Communications is a UUP position. The anticipated salary range is $75,000 to $85,000 annually and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. This position includes an outstanding benefits package (for more information, please see the UUP Benefits Summary). Special Notes: Fair Labor Standard Acts (FLSA) Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external searches to occur simultaneously.
