Temporary Waste Carrier in Normal, Illinois at Town of Normal

Public Works Waste Division
One 6 month position available. Posting will remain active until filled.

• Assists in maintaining clean, sanitary conditions in the community by way of a waste or recycle collection route, including reporting any items not collected.
• Operates a large vehicle during frequent start-stop operations, safely and efficiently.
• Maintains a close daily schedule for refuse or recycle collection.
• Maintains up-to-date records kept within the Waste Removal Division, such as equipment maintenance, route information, refuse cart program requirements and so forth.
• Maintains assigned vehicle and equipment in a safe and efficient operating condition, including greasing and washing.
• Pick up residential waste.
• Pick up landscape waste.
• A CDL license is preferred but not required.

• Ability to learn the operation and maintenance of all equipment and procedures within the division.
• Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with co-workers and other Town employees.
• Physical ability to perform a wide variety of manual labor in a wide variety of inclement weather, especially as it relates to the back, legs and arms.
• Some skill in operating heavy duty trucks.

Graduation from standard high school or equivalent, or a vocational school and some experience in manual labor and driving a commercial motor vehicle.
