JOB SUMMARY
The Quality Assistant is a multifunctional role with responsibilities both in quality assurance and new product development. This role supports production, operations, product development and R&D through accurate testing, data recording and reporting laboratory results. This role will evaluate and create color matches through lab castings and pigment checks. The Quality Assistant works closely with Quality, Production, and Engineering teams to maintain product consistency, validate process control, and assist in troubleshooting quality-related issues.

JOB FUNCTION / PURPOSE
- Support product quality and new product development through hands-on lab testing and reporting
- Help ensure consistent, high-quality products by evaluating materials and monitoring production
- Work closely with Quality, Production, and Engineering teams to solve problems and improve processes
- Follow safety and quality standards while keeping accurate records and documentation
ESSENTIAL TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Fulfill documentation and quality auditing requirements per the Quality Management System
- Coordinate quality improvement activities including corrective/preventative actions
- Perform data analysis and evaluate trends
- Calibrate all measuring equipment used to assess product quality and control process parameters using quality standard developed for each type of equipment (i.e., tapes, micrometers, LT meter, etc.)
- Clearly document all calibrations and develop and revise calibration procedures
- Perform testing and assist in special projects in production to verify and improve product quality and to improve the effectiveness of the Quality System
- Assist production employees in resolving quality issues according to ISO 9000 based quality system
- Assist manager of QA in maintaining Quality System documentation
- Complete all projects and duties assigned by the Manager of Quality Department
- Analyze, categorize and log defects from customer complaints
- Assist in inspections and disposition of RGAs at CDC warehouse, as needed
- Assist in overseeing QA at CDC as needed, pertaining to saw cut and repack
- Mix colorants for lab castings for color matching and pigment checks
- Make lab castings to determine color matches and for customer evaluation
- Monitor pour on’s and the first time a new color runs in the plant
- Monitor color runs that the plant has not run in a long time
- Evaluate belt shift and adjust color matches accordingly
- Communicate effectively with operations, commercial and product development teams
- Understanding of plant operations and PCRs
- Keep clear documentation of all tests, color dispersions and results
- Comply with Plaskolite policies and procedures
- Record, analyze and report test data accurately
- Maintain proper documentation of all laboratory test results, including test records, calibration logs, and certificates of analysis.
- Prepare and label test samples and retain materials according to company and regulatory requirements.
- Follow laboratory safety protocols, including proper handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals and materials.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and safe laboratory environment in compliance with 5S and safety standards.
- Uphold all safety, quality, and environmental compliance requirements, including those defined by ISO, OSHA, and Plaskolite’s internal standards.
- Promote and model Plaskolite’s “One Plaskolite” values by demonstrating teamwork, accountability, and integrity in all laboratory activities.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related field preferred
- 2–5 years of experience in a laboratory or chemical manufacturing environment
- Basic math skills and proficiency with data entry and tools like Excel
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to stay organized and meet deadlines
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
