As the Sr. Design Manager, you will lead the strategic growth and portfolio management of Peet’s Coffee. You will oversee the critical phases of our real estate lifecycle— focused on design and construction. You will ensure our coffee bars are designed, and built to support our brand and business goals, while extending your expertise to support our franchise and international partners.

What You Will Do
Design Leadership & Prototype Management
- Prototype Ownership: Manage, update, and evolve the Peet’s store prototype, ensuring it remains current, cost-effective, and operationally efficient while elevating the brand experience.
- Design Gatekeeper: Maintain strict adherence to design standards across all channels; review and approve all site-specific plans to ensure brand integrity is preserved.
- Innovation: Continuously evaluate materials, fixtures, and layouts to improve durability and aesthetic appeal.
Project Management & Coordination
- Front-End Process Management: Lead the pre-construction design phase, serving as the central hub for all design-related communications.
- Stakeholder Liaison: Translate complex internal requirements from Operations, Marketing, and IT into clear, actionable directives for external architects and consultants.
- Vendor Review: Meticulously review and approve shop drawings (millwork, signage, equipment) to ensure accuracy and alignment with design intent before fabrication.
Franchise & Partner Support
- Franchise Consultation: Act as the primary design resource for franchise partners, guiding them through the site adaptation process and helping them realize their specific site potential within Peet’s standards.
- Site Feasibility: Assist in reviewing potential sites (including Drive-Thru locations) to assess design feasibility and layout restrictions.
Who You Are
- Experience: 10+ years of experience in retail or hospitality design, architecture, or store development management.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or a related field.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of architectural drafting, construction documents, and shop drawing review processes. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, or SketchUp is highly valued.
- Project Management: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Communication: Exceptional ability to translate operational needs into architectural solutions and communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders.

The target annual base salary range for this position is $156k – $180k. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including the applicant’s qualifications, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education, certifications or licenses, other legitimate non-discriminatory business factors, and the geographic location of the role. In addition to base pay, individuals in this position may also be eligible to earn bonuses.
