OFFERED SALARY: $154,876.00/year

WAGE RANGE: $147,513.00 to $177,838.00/year

NUMBER OF HOURS/WEEK: 40 hours/week

REMOTE/TELECOMMUTING POSITION: N/A – 100% onsite.

TRAVEL: N/A.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Responsible for the timely and accurate verification of all medication orders and safely prepares medications and other pharmaceuticals for dispensing to patients of BMC, its clinics, and all eligible employees.
  • Researches, educates, and communicates drug information to physicians, house staff, nurses, other healthcare providers, and patients/families.
  • Maintains knowledge of automated medical dispensing process and reports and adheres to all applicable departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Interprets IV admixture orders and prepares primary IV/solutions, piggybank, and oncologic medications for each patient using proper aseptic technique, or supervises IV preparation performed by a technician.
  • Manufactures nonstandard pharmaceutical preparations when required and maintains appropriate records.
  • Assumes responsibility for final check for all completed work by pharmacy technicians.
  • Provides for the safe and accurate provision of pharmaceutical care service, including interpreting and evaluating the validity and safety of medication orders and prescriptions written by licensed practitioners; checking for appropriate dosage, drug interactions, allergies, and/or contra-indications for use before dispensing medications; and accurately processing medication order entry/verification.
  • Conducts direct patient-care activities using a consistent approach that reflects the philosophy of pharmaceutical care and is performed with high efficiency and depth of experience.
  • Provides concise, applicable, and timely response to requests for drug information from healthcare providers and patients.
  • Maintains knowledge and adheres to national standard (e.g. USP 797, USP 795, USP 800) and BHS policies and procedures.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) or foreign equivalent.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Possession of valid Pharmacist License in Massachusetts.
