Function of Position:

The Technical Assistant (TA) - Program Support is an administrative support position and a member of the Public Safety program administration and development team of the Public Safety Training Facility. As a part of this team, the TA assists with the development, planning, and administration of credit and non-credit courses for all programs. The TA functions independently as a member of a multidisciplinary team dealing with public safety training and education issues. The main areas of responsibility will include academic and instructional support, contract administration, and administrative analysis and support responsibilities. Assignments of tasks will be in Law Enforcement, Fire Rescue, and EMS programs.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Build, maintain, and manage course sections in related college systems.
  • Coordinate course scheduling, facility usage, instructional staffing, and administrative resources.
  • Manage admissions, enrollment, registration, and student support processes for Public Safety programs.
  • Maintain program records in compliance with accreditation standards, MCC policies, and applicable New York State regulatory requirements.
  • Process and track required state documentation, certification paperwork, clinical clearances, and related compliance materials.
  • Generate and analyze reports using institutional systems to support program operations and reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate with Coordinators and Managers to oversee billing, contracts, registration reconciliation of contracts and students, including reconciliation and discrepancy resolution, and payroll documentation.
  • Provide operational and administrative support to faculty, including examination coordination and instructional materials support.
  • Assist students with advisement and course registration as necessary.
  • Research and recommend purchases of supplies and equipment in accordance with New York State procurement regulations.
  • Develop and implement manual and computer-based solutions to improve departmental efficiency and information management.
  • Deliver strong customer service to students, faculty, and agency partners to ensure an effective end-to-end program experience.
  • Serve as cross-program support to ensure operational continuity across Public Safety Training programs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Secondary Functions:

  • Assist with the administration of New York State practical skills examinations.
  • Assist PSTF management team with course materials.
  • Support special events, testing sessions, and program initiatives.

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned associate's degree or higher from a regionally-accredited higher education institution
  • Demonstrated ability to manage tasks requiring close attention to detail.
  • Must demonstrate strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to perform research & recommend purchasing in compliance with NYS laws and regulations.
  • Must have an understanding of public safety disciplines and their operations.
  • Must be organized and proactive with the ability to efficiently plan, organize, and coordinate a variety of activities.
  • Must have demonstrated competence working with diverse communities.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to build positive relationships with people from a broad spectrum of disciplines.
  • Must have the ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented collaborative environment.
  • Must demonstrate flexibility and adaptability.
  • Must have a history of solving problems in performing administrative support.
  • Ability to apply Microsoft Office Suite to general administration, problem-solving, and information management tasks.
  • Must be able to work flexible work hours.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with OGS and GSA purchasing.
  • Experience in a training/education environment.
  • Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently


Additional Information:

Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity, and college budget. This position has a range of $42,000 to $45,000 and is based on these mentioned factors.

This position involves primarily sedentary work, including prolonged periods of computer use and keyboarding. The role requires the ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form. The position may occasionally involve lifting or moving items up to 10 pounds. Work is performed in a typical office environment with no adverse conditions. Occasional travel between campus buildings or to other local or out-of-town locations for meetings or conferences may be required.

In limited circumstances, prompted by business or operational needs, the College may approve requests to work remotely outside of New York State, on a short-term, temporary basis.
