About This Position
The Talent Search Academic Specialist reports directly to the Talent Search Project Director and is responsible for providing service to the Talent Search participants. The Academic Specialist will work cooperatively with other staff, target school counselors, and related support personnel in the college.

- Student Support & Advising
- Provide individual and group academic advisement to students, supporting high school completion and transition to post-secondary education.
- Guide participants through academic and career exploration, goal setting, and personal development planning.
- Monitor student progress and provide appropriate interventions or referrals as needed.
- Facilitate educational workshops for students and parents to encourage academic success and college readiness.
- Program Coordination & Events
- Plan and execute college visits, cultural enrichment activities, and community events for students, families, and educators.
- Coordinate and supervise tutors and mentors in assigned target schools.
- Conduct regular training and development meetings for tutors and mentors to ensure program quality and consistency.
- Records Management & Reporting
- Maintain up-to-date student files and program databases, documenting eligibility, academic records, services provided, and follow-up outcomes.
- Complete and submit administrative forms including travel logs, time & commitment records, and monthly activity reports.
- Collect and analyze program data and prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders as required by the Project Director.
- Communication & Professionalism
- Maintain a courteous, professional, and student-centered approach in all interactions.
- Protect the confidentiality of participant and staff information at all times.
- Represent the College and program at local and state meetings, and maintain collaborative relationships with partner agencies and organizations.
- Compliance & Work Schedule
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance in accordance with the established work schedule.
- Adhere to institutional and grant program policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, social work, psychology, or student affairs.
- Minimum of one year of experience working with high school or college students in an educational, advising, or student support setting.
- Experience working with low-income, first-generation, or underrepresented student populations is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of academic advising and student support services
- Familiarity with the needs of first-generation and low-income students
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic database systems
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
