About This Position

Description:

Part- Time (42-48 hours per week): Saturday/Sunday 7am-7pm OR every other weekend 7am-7pm

Position Summary

The Respiratory Care Practitioner is responsible for the performance of routine and critical respiratory care functions for patients of all ages, as ordered by physicians, in accordance with the hospital and departmental policies and procedures and in keeping with documented competencies and with establishes professional standards and practice.

  • Manager of Cardiopulmonary

Functions of the Position

The following functions are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all

duties performed by the position recipient:

  • Educate patients and their families about their conditions and teach appropriate management techniques such as: breathing exercises and the use of medications and respiratory equipment, in compliance with HIPAA.
  • Monitor patients’ physiological responses to therapy, such as: vital signs, arterial blood gases, and blood chemistry changes, notify physician if adverse reactions occur.
  • Conduct test, such as: electrocardiograms, Pulmonary Function Tests, ABG’s Holter Monitoring / E Patch, and Cardiac Telemetry live Monitor.
  • Determine requirements for treatment, such as: type, method, duration of therapy, precautions to be taken, and medications/dosages, and compatibility with physician’s orders.
  • Work as part of a team of physicians, nurses, and other health care professional to manage patient care.
  • Provide emergency care, including: artificial respiration, external cardiac massage, and assistance with cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Support and participate in quality initiatives as required.
  • Attend hospital in-service programs and department meetings.
  • Adhere to hospital and department policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to Dosher Memorial Hospital’s proper dress code which includes the wearing of name badges.
  • Maintain a professional rapport with patients, visitors, doctors, staff, and other departments.
  • Demonstrate maturity and accountability for job performance. Support the philosophy, objectives, and goals of the Department(s) and assess areas of personal and professional growth.
  • Adhere to Dosher Memorial Hospital’s Standards of Behavior.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Qualifications

Education:

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Graduate of an accredited program in Respiratory Care preferred

Necessary skills:

  • Current CPR certification and ACLS within 6 months of hire
  • Hold current license from NCRCB
  • Maintain strictest confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations
  • Must be well organized and detail oriented
  • Ability to make independent decisions based on experience and knowledge
  • Ability for rapid mental/muscular coordination simultaneously
  • Ability to read and understand information
  • AARC and NCSRC membership desired

Physical Demands:

  • Requires sitting for long periods, sometimes in a confined space
  • Frequently lifting/carry up to 25 lbs, occasionally up to 65 lbs
  • Frequently push up to 100 lbs
  • Occasional use of chemicals
  • Possible exposure to bloodborne pathogens, infections, and contagious diseases
  • Working around machinery with moving parts
  • Reaching, stooping, bending, or crouching

Protective Equipment Required:

  • Safety glasses
  • PPE as required
  • OR covering
