Supervises: No supervisory responsibility
Reports To: Head of Maintenance

Primary Accountability

Responsible for projects and tasks related to the maintenance of the library building, equipment, and grounds in order to successfully offer library services.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

Responsible for overall maintenance of the library building and grounds
Daily cleaning and sanitizing of the library building interior, including all restrooms, staff and public areasRepairs furniture, equipment, and appliances as needed, includes Little Libraries installed in the communityMaintains clean and safe grounds by clearing snow and ice from sidewalks and drives, clearing leaves, pinecones, and pine needles from ground, trimming shrubs and treesClears trash and recycling throughout the building.Sets up and tears down furniture (chairs, tables, etc.) for library programs, meetings, and community events in the library building or outside on library groundsAssists with coordinating contractors for specialty work as needed (lawn, snow removal, trash hauling, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc.)Supports staff with special projects as needed
Qualifications

General Professional Development:
Reacts appropriately in response to workflow, changes in priorities, or ongoing direction by supervisors or othersFollows both straight-forward and complex “decision tree” processes in response to situations encountered within established precedent such as “decision trees;” when seeking guidance when appropriate response is unclear, makes suggestions for resolution.
Knowledge & Skills:
  • Possesses specific knowledge of building maintenance processes and practices, typically learned “on the job,” or which may include a series of training sessions that would comprise a few weeks if done consecutively.
  • Must possess additional expertise in the field of building maintenance acquired through practice or exposure to various conditions, beyond the formal knowledge (or on the job training), allowing employees to perform more advanced techniques.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Uses Microsoft Office tools to create and modify basic documents.
  • Uses Microsoft Outlook to send, receive, and correspond via email.
  • Communication Skills:
  • Able to exercise tact and diplomacy in the resolution of mild conflicts or disagreements that occur on the job that would be considered at a level of basic “customer service.”
  • Prepares effectively written communication (e.g. correspondence, memos, letters, emails) conveying information.
  • Effectively communicates information during informal and formal verbal presentations.
  • Physical Demands:
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
  • Ability to climb ladders
