About This Position
POSITION SUMMARY
School nursing practice requires the combination of professional clinical nursing practice with the promotion of the health, well-being, academic achievement, and success of the school-age child. The school nurse is called upon to work closely with teachers, classroom assistants, office personnel, and technically advise the school health assistant (SHA) to carry out a wide range of school health activities. The Complex Area Lead Nurse is responsible for providing professional development and supervision to the Hawaii Keiki Nurses and Health Technicians. This is a leadership position that will train, technically advise, mentor and support Hawaii Keiki registered nurses, advanced practice registered nurses, and health technicians. The Complex Area Lead Nurse will also participate in the committees and stakeholder groups supporting nursing practice in the school setting.

Location: James Campbell High School, Campbell-Kapolei Complex Area
Full-Time Mon-Fri 7:30am - 4:00pm, 10 Month Employee
Paid Time off includes all HIDOE holidays and breaks (Fall, Winter, Spring break, Summer break) + sick leave and flex time off
10 Month Employee: Will follow the HIDOE Teacher Schedule. While the Employee is not required to report to the school or complex area superintendent’s office when DOE schools are closed, it is expected that the employee will meet their professional responsibilities to the program which will include attendance at scheduled meetings and events during non-student days.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education/Training/Experience:
- Possession of a current unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse (RN) in the State of Hawai'i.
- BLS for healthcare provider certification
- Experience with the use of electronic health records and program reporting
- One year of experience in community-based health settings, school nursing, or pediatric nursing; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
- Knowledge of state medical information release procedures and laws.
- Knowledge of HIPAA rules, regulations, and compliance.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations for blood borne pathogens.
