Laborer/Mechanic at Boston Ship Repair – Boston, Massachusetts

Job Summary

The Laborer performs preventive maintenance and repairs on shipyard equipment and supports daily operations to ensure equipment reliability and workplace safety.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and repair of shipyard equipment.
• Ensure all work meets required specifications and quality standards.
• Prepare and maintain safe and organized job sites.
• Follow and explain lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures in accordance with safety regulations.
• Interpret specifications, blueprints, and maintenance requests as needed.
• Complete repairs to help reduce maintenance backlog.
• Assist and provide direction to lower-level mechanics when required.
• Operate vehicles and equipment including fuel trucks, forklifts, and service vehicles.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Required qualifications include:

• Demonstrated ability to identify and properly use basic hand tools.
• Understanding of both standard and metric measurement systems, including ability to perform basic conversions without a calculator.

• Ability to use both hands for climbing, handling tools, and operating machinery.
• Ability to respond to verbal and visual instructions.
