About This Position
Job Summary
The Laborer performs preventive maintenance and repairs on shipyard equipment and supports daily operations to ensure equipment reliability and workplace safety.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance and repair of shipyard equipment.
- Ensure all work meets required specifications and quality standards.
- Prepare and maintain safe and organized job sites.
- Follow and explain lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures in accordance with safety regulations.
- Interpret specifications, blueprints, and maintenance requests as needed.
- Complete repairs to help reduce maintenance backlog.
- Assist and provide direction to lower-level mechanics when required.
- Operate vehicles and equipment including fuel trucks, forklifts, and service vehicles.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Required qualifications include:
- Demonstrated ability to identify and properly use basic hand tools.
- Understanding of both standard and metric measurement systems, including ability to perform basic conversions without a calculator.
Physical Demands

- Frequent standing, walking, sitting, and use of hands and arms.
- Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl, including on board vessels.
- Ability to work in confined spaces such as tanks and small compartments.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
- Ability to use both hands for climbing, handling tools, and operating machinery.
- Ability to respond to verbal and visual instructions.
Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this job:
- Exposure to wet and humid conditions.
- Work near moving mechanical parts and in elevated or precarious locations.
- Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and potentially hazardous chemicals.
- Work in extreme temperatures (hot and cold).
- Risk of electrical shock and vibration.
- Frequent work in confined spaces.
- High noise levels requiring hearing protection.
Safety Requirements
- Must comply with all company safety policies and procedures.
- Must adhere to all applicable OSHA regulations and standards.
- Must be physically and medically qualified to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators if applicable.
