Job Description
The QA Senior Test Engineer is a senior-level individual contributor responsible for ensuring high quality across complex business and technical initiatives. This role specializes in functional and end-to-end manual and automated test coverage at the feature and system level, applying risk-based testing practices to identify defects early, reduce production risk, and improve overall product quality. The Senior Test Engineer partners closely with Product, Engineering, and QA leadership to clarify requirements, improve testability, and continuously strengthen quality practices across the delivery lifecycle.
This role does not have direct people-management responsibilities but is expected to operate with a high degree of independence, technical judgment, and influence, serving as a quality leader within delivery teams.
Job Responsibilities
Test Strategy & Execution- Specializes in test strategy and execution for assigned features, epics, and initiatives, ensuring appropriate functional, integration, and end-to-end coverage.
- Create, maintain, and execute detailed test plans, test cases, and validation artifacts based on requirements, acceptance criteria, and technical design.
- Translate acceptance criteria into comprehensive test scenarios, including edge cases, negative paths, and data-driven validations.
- Execute testing across UI, API, backend, and integration layers (third party vendors and external partners); validate workflows, data integrity, and system behavior.
- Participate in root cause analysis on defects, producing high-quality defect reports with clear reproduction steps, severity assessment, and business impact.
Quality Partnership
- Actively participate in backlog refinement, story refinement, and design discussions to ensure requirements are clear, testable, and aligned with quality expectations.
- Support shift left quality practices by contributing to test case design using Gherkin and reviewing requirements and designs with testability in mind.
- Partner with developers, business systems analysts, and Product Owners to clarify acceptance criteria and reduce late-cycle defects.
- Champion defect prevention by identifying recurring quality issues and recommending process or design improvements.
Automation Awareness & Collaboration
- Helping QA deliver higher-quality automation solutions, improve test reliability, and implement more efficient testing strategies.
- Debug, enhance, and ensure the long-term sustainability and maintainability of test frameworks, automation suites, and related tooling
- Develop and maintain documentation covering best practices, tooling standards, and implementation approaches; reinforce adoption through active participation in pull request reviews
- Drive team-level quality outcomes by contributing to shared initiatives, improving processes, and influencing best practices beyond individual deliverables
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Business Analysts, Developers, and QA Leads to accelerate decision-making, resolve blockers, and support effective outcomes for the broader team
- Contribute to the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of test automation within CI/CD pipelines
- Analyze, troubleshoot, and optimize API behavior and performance, applying sound engineering judgment and security best practices
- Act as a trusted resource for automation, providing guidance, knowledge sharing, and support to other team members
Release Support & Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to regression testing strategy, release certification, and go-live readiness activities.
- Provide clear, consistent status reporting, including test progress, risks, and mitigation plans.
- Continuously evaluate testing approaches, tools, and practices, recommending improvements to increase efficiency, coverage, and confidence.
- Mentor and support less experienced QA engineers through test design reviews, knowledge sharing, and informal coaching.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- 6+ years of experience in Quality Assurance, with a strong focus on automating functional, integration, and end-to-end testing of complex applications.
- Demonstrated expertise in test design techniques and risk-based testing methodologies.
- Proficient in C# and Playwright; capable of managing and enhancing complex automated test suites.
- Strong experience working in Agile delivery environments (Scrum/Kanban); familiarity with Azure DevOps preferred.
- Hands-on experience testing APIs (e.g., Postman or similar tools), validating data using SQL, and troubleshooting test environments.
- Proven ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and influence cross-functional partners without direct authority.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Insurance or financial services domain experience preferred but not required.

In accordance with pay transparency laws and regulations, the following good faith compensation range estimate is being provided. The salary range for this position is $85,000 to $105,000 per year. Final compensation will be based on candidate qualifications, geographic location, and other considerations permitted by law.
