Mental Health Worker

Position Overview

The Mental Health Worker is responsible for providing a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment for children and adolescents in care. This role involves direct supervision of daily routines, support with self‑care activities, and the delivery of individual and group counseling services. The position works collaboratively with the treatment team to implement individualized treatment plans, follow daily programming schedules, and communicate relevant client information. When required, the role includes safely implementing approved KidsPeace restraint procedures under the direction of a licensed professional. The Mental Health Worker also supports educational activities when applicable and plays an essential role in ensuring the overall safety, well‑being, and treatment progress of youth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure a safe and secure environment at all times by immediately addressing and removing any dangers or threats to the welfare of youth and maintaining awareness of the whereabouts of all children in your care.
  • Supervise daily routines and responsibilities of children, ensuring completion of daily self‑care tasks while providing assistance as needed. Administer minor first aid treatment when necessary.
  • Provide individual counseling and facilitate therapeutic group sessions.
  • When ordered by a licensed professional, safely and appropriately implement physical restraints using the current approved KidsPeace restraint methodology, including working with youth who may weigh over 250 pounds and who present verbal or physical threats to themselves or others.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of individualized treatment plans and daily treatment schedules in accordance with partial programming.
  • Communicate all relevant client information obtained through daily supervision to appropriate members of the treatment team in a timely and accurate manner.
  • When applicable, assist with educational activities and responsibilities by collaborating closely with the teacher.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) required; Bachelor’s Degree in Mental Health or related field preferred.
  • Experience with acute emotionally challenged children or adolescents preferred.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Valid driver’s license and First Aid/CPR certifications required.
