JOB SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the Health Information Management Coordinator, the HIM Clerk has the general responsibility of maintaining medical records in accordance with TJC, federal, state, and local guidelines, organizational and departmental policies and procedures and the storage and/or destruction of expired records. Communicates with medical staff, other departments, and outside agencies while maintaining confidentiality. Position requires self-motivation, creativity, and capabilities to function in a semi-autonomous role within a fast pace and dynamic environment.
Status: Full - Time
STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE
- Attends organizational and departmental orientation upon employment and completes annual update and health requirements thereafter in accordance with timeframes specified by organizational policy.
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of and/or location of organizational policies and procedures as well as adheres to them.
- Exhibits a working knowledge of information management, confidentiality, patient/residents' safety, corporate compliance and infection control.
- Possess knowledge of reporting errors or near misses without fear or blame/punishment for reporting accidents/incidents. Addresses and reports problems as they arise.
- Participates in continuing education.
- Arrives to work on time, on scheduled days, during scheduled hours. Maintains flexibility with work schedule in meeting the needs of the department.
- Provides age specific care demonstrating knowledge of growth and development, system assessment and developing an interdisciplinary plan of care addressing culture, religion and ethnic preferences.
- Attends 75% of mandatory departmental meetings and in-services.
- Utilizes equipment and materials in a cost effective manner.
- Participates in performance improvement activities.
- Follows chain of command whenever issues or problems arise which are beyond scope of practice.
- Performs essential job functions in an acceptable quantity and quality.
Minimum Level of Education: Education level equivalent to a high school diploma.
Formal Training: Skills and experience in organizing, implementing, facilitating, and verbal and written communications.
Licensure, Certification, Registration: None required
Work Experience: Experience in records management or any aspect of the healthcare or related industry is preferred but not mandatory. Must be experienced with general office duties and equipment.
