The Department of Medicine seeks the next Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition who will elevate the Division to the highest national and international levels and lead the Division into the next sustained era of accomplishment. Growing a transformational research program, developing the next generation of academic leaders, and expansion in clinical services are the key ingredients to the continued growth and success of the Division of Gastroenterology.
Hepatology and Nutrition. Qualified applicants will be established investigators with a proven track record in extramural NIH funding. Exciting opportunities are available for translational research and clinical care. Qualified applicants must have an MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent, and will be BC/BE (Board Certified/Board Eligible) physicians and physician scientists, established investigators with a proven track record in extramural NIH funding, and a strong publication record. Job duties:
Applicants for Associate Professor, in the non-tenure or tenured, should have five or more years of experience in related scientific research; have independent, external research funding and a substantial record of peer-reviewed publications; have significant teaching experience; and demonstrate the capacity for sustained, impactful, and independent scholarly contributions and leadership.
Applicants for Professor, in the non-tenure or tenured, will have served five to seven years as Associate Professor. The rank of professor recognizes the attainment of authoritative knowledge and reputation in a recognized field of learning and the achievement of effective teaching skills. The professor should have attained superior stature in their field through scholarship, professional practice, and leadership in professional and learned organizations.
Job Duties:
- Develop, communicate, and implement a vision for the provision of Division Services within the Health System, incorporating all aspects of the mission statement – clinical service, teaching, and research.
- Work collaboratively with Health System and Division Leadership to achieve the delivery of high value health care while meeting the workforce demands for physician and extender support.
- Establish and recommend privileges within the Division, including reappointment.
- Assure quality and appropriateness of all patient care provided by members of the Division through regular review of individual performance and take corrective action in accordance with University and Health System policies, when necessary.
- Provide exemplary leadership within the Division to keep staff and faculty informed by discussing and implementing positive change, and supporting the interests of the University and Health System.
- Participate in fiscally responsible Division budgetary planning, recommending cost effective equipment, pharmaceuticals, and other profit optimization opportunities.
- Work in partnership with Department Chair and Department Administration in the determination of salary, incentive compensation, and productivity expectations for members of the Division.
- Participate in the development of programs and services to serve the medical needs of patients as deemed medically appropriate.
- Serve on the Executive Committee of the Medical Staff, the Joint Conference Committee of the Hospital, and other
committees as assigned by the President of the Medical Staff and/or Chief Executive Officer and/or Department Chairman. - Coordinate medical resident and fellowship teaching programs.
- Take an active role in the development of all staff/ faculty through mentoring and providing continuing education programs.
- Develop and maintain a source of various medical sub-specialty consultants who would be available to all members of the medical staff in a consultative capacity.
- In cooperation with Nursing, Administration, and the Medical Staff, develop and implement medical patient care policies and procedures deemed appropriate.
- Contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge in the Division through basic and/or applied research investigation, either independently or in conjunction with other investigators.
- Maintain a significant federally funded grant portfolio and robust publication record for the Division.
- Lead opportunities for collaborations of faculty across DOM and SOM, Division-Industry partnerships, and the conduct of clinical trials.
