About St. John’s Prep
St. John’s Prep is an inclusive, Catholic, Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School for young men in grades 6 through 12. Position Overview and Responsibilities
St. John’s Prep seeks a committed Learning Coach who is experienced in working with students in grades 6 through 12. The position will report to the Director of the Center for Learning and Academic Success. This is a part-time, non-benefit eligible, school year position, roughly 19.5 hours weekly.
The Writing Center is based in the Center for Learning and Academic Success (CLAS). These centers work hand-in-hand to support the learning of all students at St. John’s Prep. More information about both centers can be found at https://www.stjohnsprep.org/
The Learning coach will work under the umbrella of both centers. Specifically, the Learning Coach will:
- Work one-on-one and with small groups of students with diverse learning profiles to reinforce organization, time management and study skills.
- Maintain accurate records of all coaching sessions.
- Collaborate with teachers, guidance counselors and parents in supporting students.
- Visit academic classrooms to deliver study skills workshops.
- Present workshops at grade level meetings.
- Implement effective strategies to assist students with diverse learning styles.
- Collaborate with the Coordinator of the Writing Center and Director of CLAS to develop appropriate center programming, including workshops and webinars on specific aspects of writing and study skills.
- Model a commitment to learning and professional growth.
Skills and Competencies
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Google suite
- Willingness to learn school-based digital platforms
- Ability to independently manage a diverse range of projects
Education and ExperienceA bachelor’s degree is required as is experience working with students within learning differences.Physical Requirements:
- Standing/sitting for long periods of time.
- Bending, lifting, pushing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, stooping.
- Must be able to reach at and above shoulder height to access higher areas of equipment, etc.
- Must be capable of adapting to frequent changes in position throughout the workday.
- Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone.
- Use of hands and fingers for manipulation, and using computer keyboard, educational tools, play equipment, and perform first aid and CPR.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
