St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners is seeking a Fire Permit Specialist for our well-established St. Johns County Fire Rescue, whose headquarters are located in beautiful St. Augustine, Florida.

The St. Johns County Fire Permit Specialist is responsible for intake and providing information on plans and any other requirements for the Fire Marshals office. This position also creates, and monitors permits and invoices as well as scanning of documents, from the Fire Marshals office. just to name a few!

The newly selected Fire Permit Specialist will oversee the customer service and billing, plan intake from contractors and the public while providing exceptional customer service.
The ideal Fire Permit Specialist candidate must share St. Johns County’s values of Dedication, Openness, Adaptability, Visionary, Fiscal Responsibility, Integrity, and Humility and must work well in a collaborative team environment. Some of the specific tasks include but are not limited to:
- Keeps track of all active construction projects and uploads related documents. Looks up details on commercial buildings when a permit to complete the project is submitted.
- Watches for expiring permits or temporary occupancy certificates and lets contractors know what’s still needed to finish the process.
- Oversees fire permit applications. Explains how to submit them, checks that all paperwork is included, and makes sure everything follows the rules, codes, and laws.
- Checks that contractors have the right licenses and insurance for the work they’re doing. Also makes sure all state and county permits are in place before giving out fire permits. Verifies property ownership and legal info to meet state rules.
- Helps schedule fire inspections.
- Answers questions from the public about fire permits, inspections, and plan reviews, and explains what’s required and how the process works.
Candidates for the Fire Permit Specialist are encouraged to apply if they meet the following minimum qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent recognized certification.
- Two to four years’ experience related to the major duties of the position.
- Ability to obtain a notary public license.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain International Code Council Permit Technician certification.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license and any other endorsements necessary to legally operate vehicles used while assigned to this position.
- Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills in order to serve others.
- ·Must be able to comprehend, speak and write the English language.
- Must be able to operate a computer.
