We are actively seeking an EHS Engineer to join our growing organization.

Position Summary

The EHS Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring a safe, healthy, and environmentally compliant workplace. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining environmental and occupational health & safety programs across our manufacturing operations. The EHS Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to reduce risk, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive continuous improvement in safety and sustainability practices.

Key Responsibilities

Environmental Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations (EPA, state DEQ, etc.).
  • Maintain and update environmental permits (air, water, waste), manage reporting, and track environmental metrics (waste, energy, emissions).
  • Lead initiatives aligned with ISO 14001, including sustainability and pollution prevention programs.

Health & Safety

  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety programs, procedures, and training in accordance with OSHA, ISO 45001, and internal standards.
  • Conduct risk assessments (e.g., job hazard analysis, ergonomic evaluations) and implement engineering controls or process changes as needed.
  • Investigate incidents, identify root causes, and develop corrective/preventive actions.

Training & Communication

  • Deliver safety, environmental, and emergency response training for employees, contractors, and new hires.
  • Lead or support Safety Committee meetings, toolbox talks, and employee engagement initiatives.

Auditing & Documentation

  • Conduct routine inspections, safety audits, and compliance reviews.
  • Maintain EHS records, documentation, and procedures in alignment with ISO standards and company policies.
  • Prepare for and participate in external audits and regulatory inspections.

Emergency Response & Preparedness

  • Maintain emergency response plans (chemical spills, fires, severe weather, etc.).
  • Coordinate safety drills and ensure availability and readiness of safety equipment.

Continuous Improvement

  • Collaborate with Engineering, Production, and Quality teams to integrate EHS into process improvements, Lean initiatives, and capital projects.
  • Identify opportunities for reduction of waste, energy use, and other sustainability KPIs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Safety Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related technical field.
  • 2–5+ years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment (plastics, chemical, or industrial preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and relevant local/state regulations.
  • Experience with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 implementation and audits.
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to interpret technical and regulatory documents.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills; ability to engage and train employees at all levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with EHS management systems is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certifications (e.g., GSP, CSP, CHMM, or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of thermoplastic compounding or chemical processing.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, or Six Sigma principles.
  • First Aid/CPR, HAZWOPER, or forklift trainer certifications a plus.
