About This Position

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the leadership of the Clinical Leader of the 5th Floor, provides technical/clerical support to assist in the delivery of quality care to patients. This involves technical/clerical duties which will facilitate the 5th Floor Process operations including routine management of the telemetry room functions and documentation, interpretation of rhythm strips, ensure proper management and maintenance of telemetry equipment, ensure quality patient care through diligent maintenance of continuous telemetry as required by physician order of patient need, and prompt staff notification of dysrhythmias. Knows, follows and actively supports the philosophy, mission and vision of Holy Cross Hospital. Adheres to all hospital policies, procedures and standards of care. Observes and adheres to all corporate compliance requirements and communicates issues as they arise to the appropriate parties. Works in partnership with other patient care employees, pro-actively assists physicians, identifies and provides for individual patient needs, employing appropriate customer relation practices.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

1. Ensures that patients are maintained on continuous telemetry. Call staff as needed to troubleshoot problems quickly.

2 Maintains constant observation of all monitors for any rhythm changes and responds as

appropriate.

3 Differentiates between artifact and actual arrhythmias and proceeds as necessary.

4 Alerts RN of any change in patient rhythm.

5 Pages RN "stat" to room for lethal arrhythmias. Follows up to ensure that staff has arrived in patient room for emergency situations.

6 Records daily strips for all new patients and rhythm changes.

7 Interprets all strips to be validated by RN

8 Runs strips for each patient once during shift and PRN for all arrhythmias. These will be posted to the individual patient chart.

9 Reviews alarm settings every shift for each patient

10. Reviews all alarm able events before erasing red flashing warning

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Education:

Must have general academic and social development such as that normally associated successful completion of high school;

Must be able to read and write and perform simple arithmetic calculations.

Must be compliant with PPD requirements.

Experience:

Must have successfully completed Basic Dysrythmia Course.
