About This Position

Performs difficult administrative work maintaining the city’s building structures and the associated component systems, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the Public Works Director. Divisional supervision is exercised over all personnel within the division.

  • Manages the maintenance of the city’s building structures and component systems.
  • Inspects the various buildings for maintenance needs.
  • Responds to requests for repair and service.
  • Manages the building capital and maintenance budgets, finances and purchasing.
  • Coaches and mentors assigned staff; schedules divisional training and meetings.
  • Coordinates activities of outside contractors and consultants.
  • Leads facility infrastructure projects utilizing project management skills and customer service.
  • Maintains maintenance supply inventories.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.
  • Serve as ADA coordinator for city buildings and associated parking areas. This includes:
    1. Periodically reviewing and updating the city’s transition plan, which identifies and prioritizes the removal of physical barriers that impede access for individuals with disabilities;
    2. Working with contractors to ensure that renovations or repairs comply with ADA requirements;
    3. Investigating and resolving complaints about accessibility issues within buildings and facilities and ensuring that any necessary corrective actions are taken promptly.

Minimum Qualifications: (expected to have to enter job)
  • Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Construction Management, Business, or related field AND;
  • Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible experience in facilities management, including at least two (2) years of supervisory and project management experience; OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Certified Facility Manager within two years of hire.
  • Valid driver's license in the state of Minnesota.

Preferred Qualifications: (desired but not expected to have to enter job)
  • Class B driver's license and possession of Class C Boiler license preferred.

  • Safety principles, policies and procedures
  • General knowledge of budgeting and accounting principles, policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of and ability to use Microsoft Office Suite and position specific software applications

Physical Requirements:
  • Exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force
  • Regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires tasting or smelling and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting
  • Close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception and peripheral vision
  • Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word
  • Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels
  • Preparing and analyzing written or computer data, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm’s length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities
  • Occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working in high, precarious places, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment
  • Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
