About This Position

Description:

The Lead Bartender is responsible for the efficient operation of the bar and for delivering exceptional service to guests while overseeing the bar team. This hands-on leadership role involves crafting drinks, managing inventory, maintaining cleanliness, training staff, and ensuring consistent quality of service. The Lead Bartender serves as a liaison between bar staff and management, helping uphold company standards, drive sales, and create a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Bar Operations & Service

• Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to guests efficiently and accurately.

• Maintain full knowledge of the cocktail menu, beer and wine list, and bar offerings.

• Ensure all drinks meet quality, portion, and presentation standards.

• Monitor bar cleanliness, barware, tools, and overall appearance during shift.

2. Leadership & Team Oversight

• Act as the senior team member behind the bar, guiding bartenders and barbacks during service.

• Train new bar staff on cocktail preparation, bar procedures, and guest service expectations.

• Monitor staff performance and support corrective action or coaching as needed.

• Ensure smooth shift transitions and delegate tasks based on business volume.

3. Guest Experience

• Provide friendly, professional service while engaging with guests and anticipating their needs.

• Handle guest concerns or complaints related to bar service quickly and professionally.

• Foster a lively and positive bar environment that encourages return visits.

4. Inventory & Cost Control

• Assist with ordering, receiving, and organizing bar inventory and supplies.

• Track usage and waste to minimize cost and maintain beverage cost percentages.

• Conduct regular inventory counts and report discrepancies to the Bar Manager.

5. Cash Handling & Compliance

• Accurately process payments and close guest tabs using POS systems.

• Ensure all alcohol service complies with local laws and responsible service protocols.

• Check IDs to verify guests are of legal drinking age.

• Enforce safety and sanitation standards, including cleanliness and bar hygiene.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; mixology or hospitality training preferred.

• 2+ years of bartending experience in a high-volume environment.

• Previous experience in a supervisory or lead bartender role is highly preferred.

• Strong mixology skills with knowledge of classic and contemporary cocktails.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

• Must be of legal age to serve alcohol and hold any required alcohol service certification (e.g., TIPS, RBS).

• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 lbs.

Working Conditions:

• Fast-paced, noisy environments, especially during peak hours or events.

• Shifts may include nights, weekends, holidays, and late hours.

• Must be able to multitask under pressure and maintain composure.
