About This Position

General Job Description

The Environmental Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing systems and procedures to ensure environmental compliance and sustainability within the organization. This role evaluates the environmental impact of operations, ensures adherence to local, state, and federal regulations, and works to minimize the company’s environmental footprint through process improvement and mitigation strategies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead environmental compliance programs, including air quality, water management, hazardous and non-hazardous waste, chemical handling, and spill prevention.
  • Conduct environmental audits, site assessments, and inspections to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (EPA, OSHA, RCRA, CERCLA).
  • Prepare, submit, and maintain environmental permits, reports, and documentation such as air emission inventories, NPDES permits, and hazardous waste manifests.
  • Coordinate responses to environmental incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to site personnel on environmental compliance requirements and best practices.
  • Interface with regulatory agencies, maintaining effective relationships and responding proactively to regulatory inspections and inquiries.
  • Participate in sustainability initiatives, identifying opportunities for resource conservation, waste minimization, and pollution prevention.
  • Provide support during capital projects, ensuring environmental compliance during construction and operational phases.

Managerial Responsibility

This position has no managerial responsibility.

Work Environment

This job operates primarily in a professional office environment. Participation in events (trials, DOE, etc.) on the production floor is required. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.

The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position.

Monday-Friday, core work hours 1st shift

Flexible hours to be available.

Must be available to work weekends when requested by the Supervisor.


Travel

Travel is minimal and primarily local. Occasional out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.


Required Education and Experience

  • 2-5 years’ experience in environmental engineering, chemical engineering, or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental compliance or engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental laws and regulations frameworks (EPA, OSHA, ISO 14001).
  • Proficiency with environmental monitoring and reporting tools.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills.

Preferred/Desired:

  • Need to be able to work in a fast-paced, high-speed environment, follow standardized work, and adhere to safe work practices in a continuously improving environment.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus.
  • The ability to work with components that are in constant motion along a production line without adverse effects.
  • The ability to work on a team of co-workers in close proximity to each other.
  • The ability to make timely decisions and provide feedback to each other.
  • Have a strong desire for personal and professional development.
