About Us

Colorado Springs Cardiology is dedicated to providing comprehensive cardiac and vascular care with a personal touch. We are seeking a Lead Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to serve as a Cardiology Extender alongside our physicians and provide clinical and operational leadership across the APP team.

Position Summary

The Lead APP is a working clinical leader who delivers direct patient care while providing governance, oversight, and coordination for the APP team. This role ensures the team consistently delivers high-quality, patient-centered care through APP scheduling, performance feedback, physician collaboration on quality, KPI reporting, and driving overall team effectiveness. The Lead APP bridges clinical staff and practice leadership, aligning quality standards, operational expectations, and professional conduct—with patient care quality as the primary measure of success.

Essential FunctionsClinical Care Delivery
Provide direct cardiac and vascular patient care as a Cardiology Extender under physician supervision and collaborationModel clinical excellence and exercise independent judgment in patient assessment, diagnosis, and management per established protocolsMaintain productivity benchmarks and ensure timely, thorough, compliant documentation
APP Governance & Oversight
Serve as the designated clinical lead for all APPs, setting clear expectations for performance, conduct, and clinical standardsEnsure the APP team delivers consistent, high-quality care aligned with practice standards, evidence-based guidelines, and patient safety expectationsIdentify clinical practice variations and partner with physicians and leadership to standardize care deliveryServe as primary point of contact for APP operational matters; ensure compliance with credentialing, licensing, and regulatory requirements
Scheduling & Resource Coordination
Develop and manage APP schedules to optimize patient access, coverage, and utilizationCoordinate adjustments for absences and volume changes; partner with leadership on staffing and coverage planning
Performance Feedback & Development
Deliver structured, ongoing feedback on clinical quality, documentation, patient care outcomes, productivity, professional conduct and citizenship, and workflow adherenceSupport the formal APP evaluation process including chart review and performance discussionsIdentify performance gaps and recommend development plans in partnership with practice leadership and HRChampion a culture where high-quality patient care is the non-negotiable standard; mentor and onboard new APPs
Quality Review & Physician Partnership
Partner with physicians on quality review, clinical oversight, chart review, peer review, and clinical standardizationMonitor APP clinical outcomes and care trends to ensure quality benchmarks are met or exceededEscalate quality concerns promptly; promote accountability, evidence-based care, and continuous improvement
Practice Performance & KPI Management
Track and communicate APP-related KPIs including visit volume, patient access, care quality measures, documentation quality, and workflow efficiencyAssist in the interviewing, onboarding, and training of newly hired APPs to ensure alignment with practice standards, clinical expectations, and team culture.Present performance data regularly to leadership and the APP team; translate insights into actionable steps that elevate patient care quality
Team Meetings & Communication
Conduct regular APP team meetings to review performance, share updates, and align prioritiesEnsure clear communication between APPs, physicians, and leadership; foster a collaborative, engaged team environment
Regulatory & Credentialing Requirements
PA-C certification (NCCPA), required at hire and maintained throughout employmentUnrestricted DEA registration with prescriptive authority for all commonly prescribed medicationsEligible for Medicare and Medicaid provider status with no HHS/OIG or GSA exclusionsUnrestricted medical staff membership with appropriate practice privileges and prescriptive authority per privileging process
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant StudiesUnrestricted license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the StateAcute Care CertificationBLS certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross)
Preferred Qualifications
3+ years of clinical experience in cardiology or vascular carePrior experience in a lead, supervisory, or preceptor role in a clinical settingDemonstrated ability to manage schedules, deliver feedback, and drive team performanceFamiliarity with clinical quality metrics and performance reporting
Work Environment

This is a clinical leadership position requiring regular on-site presence. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM. (Hospital Coverage?)

Physical Requirements

This position requires full range of body motion. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to handle or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 25 pounds.
