Job Description
We are seeking a highly energetic, customer service–oriented team member to serve as the public face of the Atlanta History Center in a full-time Guest Engagement Ambassador (GEA) role. This position offers increased hours and benefits. Eligible applicants must be in good standing with AHC and have no performance actions within the past six months.
GEAs welcome and orient guests, share historical information, and facilitate ticketing and museum shop transactions. They bring history to life in our historic houses through engaging conversations, guided tours, and demonstrations.
This role requires a warm, enthusiastic, and engaging demeanor. Guest Engagement Ambassadors enjoy interacting with visitors and supporting colleagues. Successful GEAs are collaborative team players who actively seek opportunities to connect with guests, adapt easily to a changing work environment, embrace learning new skills and information, and maintain flexibility to work varied schedules, including weekends and holidays.
Key Responsibilities
General
- Develop a thorough understanding of the Atlanta History Center and Goizueta Gardens.
- Proactively engage guests in conversations about historic houses, exhibitions, and gardens; highlight key experiences and help curate their visit.
- Participate in all required training programs and development opportunities as assigned by the supervisor.
- Follow all safety and health protocols, including emergency procedures.
- Assist with the opening and closing of exhibits in the Museum and Historic Houses.
- Coordinate with the security team to support daily operations.
- Maintain clean and sanitized work areas at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Wear the approved uniform each workday.
Guest Experience
- Welcome and orient guests to the Atlanta History Center.
- Process admissions for individuals, groups, school visits, and other guests.
- Handle retail museum shop transactions and regularly restock merchandise.
- Complete daily ticketing reconciliation reports, close open transactions, and ensure accuracy in Galaxy Ticketing Software.
- Open and close exhibitions, maintain workspace, and ensure public areas are presentable.
- Operate the Cyclorama film as needed.
- Promote membership benefits to every visitor and answer related questions.
- Managing cash handling with accuracy and accountability.
- Provide reception support as needed. Operating a multi-line phone system, directing calls, and providing information.
Historic Houses
- Develop a thorough understanding of the historic houses, their histories, and interpretive themes.
- Learn and apply approved interpretive techniques and participate in new program training.
- Deliver factual, engaging, and accurate historical information to diverse audiences.
- Regularly review in-house manuals and interpretation updates to ensure presentation accuracy.
- Conduct scheduled demonstrations and guided tours following approved program outlines.
- Support daily operations, including opening/closing, collections care, cleaning, and private event setup.
- Work in both indoor and outdoor settings, in all weather conditions.
Qualifications
- High School diploma and sufficient education to perform the required tasks and responsibilities of the position.
- Demonstrated customer service experience or comparable experience working with the public.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly adapt to a variety of situations.
- Experience with computers and automated data entry.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time and be stationed outside in natural weather elements.
- Must be available to work at least three days a week, including weekday, weekend and holiday shifts
