This remote leadership role oversees the development and execution of comprehensive internal audit programs across a complex, multi-state organization.
You will assess enterprise risks, evaluate financial and operational controls, and identify opportunities to strengthen governance and performance.
The position combines hands-on audit expertise with people leadership, project management, and strategic advisory responsibilities.
You will work closely with senior management, IT, external auditors, and cross-functional stakeholders to address risks and improve business processes.

- Lead the development and execution of annual corporate, club, insurance, and/or IT audit plans based on risk assessments, organizational objectives, regulatory requirements, Audit Committee needs, and professional auditing standards.
- Manage multiple internal audits from planning through completion, establishing objectives, budgets, timelines, staffing plans, and audit programs while ensuring adherence to internal methodology and professional standards.
- Assign, supervise, and provide hands-on support to audit teams; review workpapers, findings, recommendations, and reports to ensure conclusions are accurate, well-supported, and clearly documented.
- Identify potential control weaknesses, fraud, errors, waste, abuse, regulatory issues, and other risks, and recommend practical improvements to strengthen the organization's control environment.
- Lead risk assessments and evaluate the effectiveness of financial and operational controls, business processes, regulatory compliance, and governance practices.
- Present audit findings and recommendations to management at various organizational levels and monitor progress against agreed-upon corrective actions and goals.
- Conduct special projects, consultative reviews, and other assignments requested by management, including participation in major corporate initiatives where internal controls must be incorporated into new systems, processes, and programs.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with external auditors, IT teams, corporate leadership, and other stakeholders, coordinating audit activities and ensuring timely completion of required work.
- Monitor audit plan status, time tracking, budgets, and project performance while ensuring accurate and timely reporting to leadership.
- Lead, coach, mentor, and evaluate a professional team of auditors, including providing training, performance feedback, career development, and support with performance issues.
- Participate in recruiting activities and recommend candidates for audit positions based on organizational needs.
- Continuously improve internal audit methodologies, tools, data analytics practices, and control-monitoring processes while staying current on relevant laws, regulations, auditing standards, and emerging technologies.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of five years of internal audit experience, including developing audit programs, conducting financial and operational audits, evaluating findings and recommendations, assessing risk, and analyzing internal controls.
- Demonstrated experience supervising or managing professional staff and developing less experienced team members through coaching and mentoring.
- CIA or CISA certification, or the ability to obtain one within 18 months of hire if not already held; study materials and testing support are provided in accordance with applicable policies.
- Strong understanding of financial and operational controls, corporate governance, internal audit practices, financial accounting standards, and risk management principles.
- Experience analyzing performance and compliance with business rules, financial controls, and regulatory requirements, ideally within the insurance industry.
- Knowledge of audit data analytics techniques and tools, Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and audit or analysis software, including generative AI tools.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, project management, negotiation, and diplomatic skills, with strong attention to detail and professional judgment.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present audit reports and recommendations to all levels of management.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership capabilities, with the ability to motivate teams, manage competing priorities, build trusted relationships, and deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to manage multiple audits and major projects simultaneously, prioritize effectively, control budgets, meet deadlines, and work independently under pressure.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively in a remote, video-conference-based environment.
- Preferred qualifications include CPA certification, a master's degree in a relevant discipline, Property & Casualty or Life & Health licensing, knowledge of statutory accounting, and familiarity with multi-state insurance regulations.
- Experience with insurance or automotive industries, field operations, business and sales compensation systems such as Workday, AXIS, or Salesforce, and applicable state insurance laws is advantageous.
- Salary: $110,000–$160,000 annually, with potential for an annual performance-based bonus.
- Work arrangement: Fully remote position with a Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. schedule; occasional office attendance may be required for important meetings or team-building activities.
