Position Summary

The Executive Director, Practice Opening is responsible for leading our national practice opening team. This position reports to the VP, Member Enrollment and leads a dynamic, growing team of 7 Practice Opening Managers (POMs), each accountable for up to 30 physician practice launches annually — representing a national portfolio of 200+ launches per year.

This role is responsible for building independent physician practices around physicians who have previously been employed in settings such as hospital systems, insurance companies, or multi-specialty group. The role is also responsible for independent physician practice openings and operations for physicians selling their practices. The Practice Opening department will support doctors in building or transitioning their practice, including assisting with site selection and the physical buildout of the site, business entity creation, provider enrollment and credentialing, setting up the office, IT setup, EMR set up, revenue cycle management, assisting with staffing, hiring and onboarding, and sharing best demonstrated practices around practice operations. Your success will be measured based on opening hundreds of new practices each year on a timely basis and in a seamless fashion that removes this burden from the physicians, and on team-wide performance against On-Time Opening Rate, Milestone Completion, Issue Resolution Speed, Internal Handoff Quality, Physician Satisfaction Score, and Budget Adherence.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will stand up hundreds of de novo physician offices/practices and have a successful track record.
  • Prepare and manage practice opening checklists, documentation, and reporting tools to track progress.
  • Manage external vendors and partners such as real estate brokers, general contractors, and suppliers.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop positive relationships and drive business initiatives forward.
  • Deliver doctor satisfaction while opening practices on time and within budget constraints.
  • Directly manage, coach, and develop a team of Practice Opening Managers, holding each accountable to individual and team performance against On-Time Opening Rate, Milestone Completion, Issue Resolution Speed, Internal Handoff Quality, Physician Satisfaction Score, and Budget Adherence targets.
  • Serve as the escalation point for at-risk practice openings, removing roadblocks POMs cannot resolve independently and engaging senior stakeholders across marketing, IT, legal, and operations.
  • Standardize and continuously refine national playbooks, tools (Smartsheet, Jira, Salesforce, Confluence), and reporting cadences used across the POM team to ensure consistency at scale.
  • Partner with Member Enrollment leadership to ensure clean, high-quality handoffs from Practice Opening to Success Management, protecting long-term practice health across the portfolio.

Demonstrated Ability

  • A leader who has demonstrated ability to lead and grow teams effectively.
  • Ability to create and enhances standardized processes to stand up and open practices across a national geography, including implementing the MDVIP model successfully.
  • Excellent communicator, confident and responsive: engages with doctors consistently and provides timely and valuable support.
  • A combination of excellent project management skills with deep customer service orientation and operational knowledge.
  • Results driven and execution oriented; demonstrated commitment to and track record of exceeding goals/targets.
  • Ability to understand, empathize and connect with doctors, as well as build trust, influence and be a consultative advisor to doctors about business optimization.
  • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting and forecasting.
  • Ability to drive growth initiatives, optimize service delivery, and represent MDVIP externally.
  • Proven ability to hire, coach, and performance-manage a team of client-facing project or implementation managers, building bench strength and succession depth.
  • Ability to travel up to 30%.
