About the Role

The Equipment Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating heavy machinery in support of telecommunications construction projects, including excavation, grading, and material handling. This role requires technical skill, strong safety awareness, and the ability to work closely with a broader field crew to keep projects on schedule.

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions

• Operate and maintain excavators, vacuum excavation trucks (VACs), guzzlers, and other heavy equipment

• Execute digging, grading, and material-moving tasks efficiently and accurately, in line with project specifications

• Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth and safe operations on the job site

• Conduct routine equipment inspections and perform preventive maintenance as needed

• Identify and report mechanical issues or safety concerns promptly

• Adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations, promoting a culture of safety among team members

• Assist in the setup and breakdown of equipment as required for different projects

• Work closely with project managers and supervisors to meet project deadlines

• Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, maintenance, and job site activity

Qualifications & Requirements

• Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred

• Proven experience operating heavy equipment such as excavators, VACs, guzzlers, or similar machinery

• Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of routine equipment maintenance

• Ability to read and follow grading, depth, and alignment specifications

• Strong safety mindset and familiarity with OSHA or industry safety standards

• Ability to work effectively as part of a team in an outdoor field environment

• Comfortable working in varying weather conditions and terrain

• Reliable, punctual, and able to meet project timelines

Job Type: Full-time

Schedule

• Monday–Friday, general business hours

• Availability to support work outside regular hours as project needs require

• Regional travel may be required
