Description:

Step Into a Role Where Your Billing Expertise Drives Impact & Excellence!

Location: Tacoma, WA | On-Site

Schedule: Full-Time | Mon – Fri, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Hiring Range: $23.52 - $26.75 per hour

Position Close Date: July 16, 2026

Take your revenue cycle expertise to the next level in a dynamic role. As a Billing Specialist II at the Puyallup Tribal Health Authority (PTHA), you will perform billing functions — including claim processing, payment posting, insurance verification, and denial resolution — while also supporting team workflows, reporting, and compliance. Your work ensures patient accounts are managed with precision, timeliness, and full alignment with payer requirements and organizational standards.

What You’ll Do:

  • Process high volumes of medical, dental, and orthodontic insurance claims using ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS coding standards to ensure accurate and timely billing.
  • Verify patient insurance eligibility, benefits, and payer requirements to support compliant claim submission and reimbursement.
  • Generate, submit, and reconcile electronic (837/835), CMS-1500, and ADA claims while ensuring adherence to payer guidelines.
  • Review, research, and resolve denied or rejected claims by correcting billing errors, coordinating coding revisions, and resubmitting claims for payment.
  • Manage assigned accounts receivable (A/R), monitor aging reports, and perform follow up activities to improve collections and reduce outstanding balances.
  • Post insurance and patient payments, adjustments, and denials accurately while reviewing Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and remittance documentation.
  • Prepare and distribute patient statements, process Medicaid eligibility updates and spend-down billing, and monitor payer reports to identify and resolve unbilled claims.
  • Analyze billing trends, identify process inefficiencies or system issues, and recommend workflow improvements to enhance billing accuracy and productivity.
  • Train and support new billing staff by providing guidance on billing systems, workflows, and organizational procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, confidentiality, and organizational policies while participating in required annual regulatory and safety training.

What You Bring:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Three (3) years of recent experience in medical billing or revenue cycle operations
  • Dental billing experience preferred

PTHA Employee Benefits:

  • Supportive environment that values a healthy work/life balance
  • Medical/Dental/Vision monthly premiums paid 100% by PTHA for employees (health coverage begins the first of the month following hire date)
  • (13) annual leave (vacation) days + (13) annual sick leave days
  • (18+) annual paid holidays including a birthday holiday
  • 401(k) with annual profit-sharing contributions after (1) year of service
  • Life and AD&D insurance coverage
  • Have student loans? PTHA is an approved loan repayment site for various student loan programs

This is more than a billing position — it’s an opportunity to lead, influence processes, and make a meaningful impact on both operations and patient care. You’ll play a critical role in strengthening the revenue cycle while supporting a mission-driven organization committed to community health.
