Job Description
The Senior Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate product costing, inventory valuation, and financial reporting related to manufacturing operations. This position partners closely with Operations, Sales and Finance to ensure accurate standard costing, and identify opportunities to improve profitability and efficiency. The Senior Accountant is a contributor in supporting the monthly, and annual financial close by ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP, company policies, and internal controls.
Requirements:Cost Accounting
- Maintain and update standard costs for materials, labor, and overhead.
- Review and validate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and manufacturing routings.
- Analyze material, labor, overhead, scrap, and production variances and recommend improvements to profitability and efficiency.
- Perform standard cost updates in accordance with company policies and financial reporting requirements.
- Partner with Operations, Purchasing, and Production team to ensure costing accurately reflects manufacturing processes and material usage.
- Investigate root causes of unfavorable variances and recommend corrective actions.
- Work with Operations to develop annual labor and overhead rates used in standard costing to ensure they align with budgeted manufacturing cost and operational performance.
- Collaborate with the parent company to establish and maintain intercompany transfer pricing and costing for internal product purchases.
Inventory Management
- Ensure accurate inventory valuation and compliance with accounting standards.
- Reconcile inventory accounts and investigate discrepancies.
- Monitor inventory reserves, obsolescence, and slow-moving inventory.
- Support physical inventory counts and cycle count programs.
Finance Department
- Prepare journal entries related to inventory and finance department activities.
- Reconcile inventory and general ledger accounts
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
- Assist with timely and accurate financial reporting and analysis.
- Support ERP implementations, upgrades, and process improvements.
Audit and Compliance
- Support internal and external audits related to inventory and cost accounting and general financial accounting.
- Maintain documentation supporting inventory valuation and costing methodologies.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and GAAP requirements.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
· 2+ years of progressive Cost Accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
· Strong understanding of standard cost, manufacturing variances and cost analysis.
· Proficient with Microsoft Excel (PivotTables, LOOKUPs, etc.)
· Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Self-motivated with ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
· Foreign currency exposure – EURO, USD conversions.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Experience with SAP ERP system.
· Strong knowledge of GAAP and familiarity with internal controls.
