Job Description

Sr. DevOps Engineer (AWS / Terraform)

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr. DevOps Engineer (AWS / Terraform) based in the United States.

This role sits at the core of a high-throughput DevOps function supporting a healthcare technology platform operating on AWS. You will be responsible for managing the continuous flow of infrastructure-related work coming from multiple engineering teams, ensuring requests, fixes, and reviews are executed quickly and accurately. The position is highly operational and execution-focused, centered on Terraform-driven infrastructure, PR reviews, and resolving day-to-day platform issues rather than long-term architecture ownership. You will work embedded within an Agile scrum team, collaborating closely with engineers to unblock deployments, stabilize environments, and maintain system reliability. This is a fast-paced, interrupt-driven environment where responsiveness, precision, and strong AWS fundamentals are critical. It is ideal for an experienced DevOps engineer who enjoys hands-on problem-solving and keeping complex cloud systems running smoothly.

Accountabilities:
  • Manage incoming infrastructure change requests, including Terraform-based updates and PR reviews
  • Review, validate, and apply infrastructure changes using PR-driven IaC workflows (e.g., Terraform/Atlantis)
  • Support engineering teams by troubleshooting CI/CD pipeline failures and deployment issues
  • Handle operational fixes across non-production environments and resolve infrastructure-related bugs
  • Respond to and triage infrastructure alerts using monitoring tools such as Datadog
  • Perform AWS operational tasks including IAM changes, ECS updates, S3 configurations, and Parameter Store management
  • Maintain and optimize infrastructure resources through right-sizing, cleanup, and lifecycle management
  • Participate actively in Agile ceremonies including stand-ups, sprint planning, and ticket execution
  • Document fixes, create runbooks, and contribute to operational knowledge sharing
  • Collaborate with multiple engineering teams to unblock delivery and maintain platform stability
Requirements:
  • 7+ years of experience in DevOps, platform engineering, or infrastructure-focused roles
  • Strong hands-on experience with Terraform, including writing, reviewing, and maintaining modules
  • Solid AWS expertise across core services (ECS, S3, IAM, VPC, CloudWatch, and related infrastructure components)
  • Experience with PR-driven infrastructure workflows (Terraform Cloud, Atlantis, or similar tools)
  • Strong CI/CD troubleshooting skills, including Docker-based build and deployment pipelines
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash and/or Python for automation tasks
  • Ability to work effectively in an interrupt-driven, high-throughput operational environment
  • Strong communication skills and full professional fluency in English
  • Ability to manage context switching while maintaining accuracy and responsiveness
  • Nice to have: experience with Datadog, Kubernetes (ECS-first environments), FinOps practices, or regulated industries (e.g., healthcare, fintech)
Benefits:
  • Fully remote full-time role with flexible structure
  • Long-term independent contractor engagement (no fixed end date)
  • Competitive compensation paid in USD (biweekly or monthly options)
  • Structured 40-hour work week aligned with US Eastern Time
  • Opportunity to work on a large-scale AWS environment supporting critical healthcare systems
  • Exposure to enterprise DevOps practices, CI/CD modernization, and infrastructure automation at scale
  • Stable long-term engagement with continuous technical challenges and operational impact
