Job Description
The Director of Nursing at Community Nursing Services will be responsible for overseeing the
medical needs and services provided to all clients/participants throughout Journeys Family of
Services, particularly focused on the needs of participants at HAS Incorporated. This position
leads a team of healthcare professionals and collaborates with external medical staff to ensure
the delivery of high-quality care that meets the unique needs of individuals with developmental
disabilities. Responsibilities include:
Clinical Leadership and Oversight
Lead the development and completion of all nursing care plans in accordance with
IDAPA and agency regulations.
Ensure compliance with standards set forth by the Idaho State Board of Nursing and
relevant healthcare regulations.
Conduct participant medical assessments and ensure oversight of implementation plans
for A&D waiver participants.
Review and revise participant MARs and medical documentation for accuracy and
timeliness.
Oversee all medication-related training, audits, and charting standards.
Manage quarterly audits for nursing binders and medication records.
Team Management and Development
Supervise all Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and Medical Assistants (MAs), ensuring
duties are completed per protocol.
Conduct interviews, onboard new hires, and provide training on systems,
documentation, and daily operations.
Perform annual performance reviews and administer disciplinary actions as necessary.
Visit each region at least monthly to supervise and support regional nursing staff.
Cover LPN or MA shifts as needed during PTO or staff shortages.
Medical Services Coordination
Coordinate all doctor visits and medical appointments for participants as needed.
Collaborate with QIDPs, service coordinators, and caregivers to address participant
medical needs.
Provide direct support in times of medical crisis or system gaps (e.g., regional nurse
vacancies).
Participate in participant intakes, gathering medical information and coordinating care
plans.
Maintain and monitor all medical files within the QVR system.
Quality Assurance and Compliance
Conduct quarterly audits on each region and maintain all necessary documentation for
internal and external review.
Prepare for and participate in re-certifications, surveys, and audits from L&C and BDDS.
Ensure compliance with internal policies and state/federal healthcare regulations.
Maintain high ethical standards in all documentation, practices, and leadership
responsibilities.
Attend and document all in-service and staff trainings as required.
Communication and Leadership Support
Carry and manage the on-call nurse phone to guide staff in real-time care decisions.
Coordinate and manage the nursing on-call calendar weekly.
Work collaboratively with administrators and HR to align the department with
organizational goals.
Take initiative to evolve the role of the Director of Nursing as agency needs develop.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
1. Regulatory and Documentation Compliance
100% timely completion of nursing care plans, assessments, and MAR audits.
Zero deficiencies or citations during L&C, BDDS, or internal audits.
Accurate, complete, and timely documentation across all participant records.
2. Staff Performance and Retention
Timely completion of annual performance evaluations for all nursing staff.
Staff turnover rate remains below agency threshold.
100% of new hires receive required onboarding, training, and certifications within 30
days.
3. Clinical Coverage and Crisis Response
Regional visits completed monthly per region with supporting documentation.
All LPN/MA vacancies covered without interruption to participant services.
100% of crisis events responded to in accordance with agency protocols.
4. Training and Certification Compliance
100% of direct care staff trained and certified in medication assistance and CPR/First
Aid within required timelines.
CPR and Medication Delegation trainings are maintained and updated annually.
All required staff meet IDAPA training standards annually (8+ hours/year).
5. Quality Assurance Metrics
Quarterly audits submitted with 100% compliance.
Reduction in repeat documentation errors across regional nursing teams.
Updated training modules maintained and evaluated for effectiveness annually.
Requirements:What You'll Bring
- Active RN license (ID License Required)
- ASN or BSN from an accredited nursing program
- At least 1 year of clinical nursing experience
- Experience with IDD, developmental disabilities, or long-term care preferred
- Strong assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills
- Ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with EHR systems and basic computer tools
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- CPR certification
