Summary:
The Production Scheduler develops, maintains, and adjusts production schedules to meet customer demands, optimize efficiency, and ensure on-time delivery in a manufacturing environment. This role collaborates closely with Production, Engineering, Purchasing, Sales, and other teams to align capacity, materials, labor, and priorities. Key focus areas include monitoring production flow, resolving bottlenecks, and driving continuous improvement.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, analytical, detail-oriented, and collaborative, with strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to deeply understand existing processes.
Essential Functions:
Production Scheduling & Coordination
- Develop and adjust detailed production schedules based on customer demand, material availability, labor/machine capacity, and lead times.
- Monitor schedule adherence, communicate changes/risks, and adapt quickly to shifting priorities.
- Support on-time delivery and overall production flow improvements.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with departments to resolve scheduling conflicts and bottlenecks.
- Lead or participate in daily/weekly scheduling meetings and drive accountability.
ERP & Data Management
- Maintain accurate scheduling data in the ERP system; review BOMs and routings.
- Leverage Microsoft Excel, reporting tools, scheduling software, and AI tools to analyze performance and improve efficiency.
- Support manual scheduling processes when needed.
Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement
- Analyze variances, delays, and inefficiencies; implement corrective actions.
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes and support lean manufacturing initiatives.
- Learn current processes thoroughly before recommending changes.
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, operations management, business, or related field (preferred); equivalent experience accepted.
- 2+ years of production scheduling experience in manufacturing, job shop, or metal fabrication.
- Experience with ERP systems, production scheduling/APS software, and AI tools for data analysis and planning.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, data analysis).
- Familiarity with BOMs, routings, and lean principles (preferred).
- Excellent communication, organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Adaptable, self-motivated, and team-oriented with the ability to lead meetings and manage multiple priorities.
- Flexibility for early start times (initially 6:00 AM) as business needs evolve.
- Physical Requirements: Sedentary role with ability to exert up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally. Requires occasional standing/walking in plant environments, effective verbal communication, and visual acuity for computer work and data analysis.
